Bird was brilliant, maybe just pipped Gallen or Hoffman for MOM. And Tupou was superb off the bench. NSW play a bit like the Sharks (well, especially with our two key players) in that they rely on dominant forwards and that makes the games punishing, but even when dominating the other side can score a freaky try or two and be close.

NSW were much better than the score indicated (much like the Sharks often are), but I'm glad people are starting to see the super star qualities of Bird and Gallen. During the call, Daley (I think it was) quoted Gallen and Bird as the key men to wrap up the game.

Did every else think that NSW were particulalry dominant while Gallen was on, and lost that a bit when he went off?

And the queenslanders must hate Bird running at them because they hardly ever got a good shot on him.

Still, they will be much better if they get Price and Lockyer for any of the rest of the series...

not in the shire anymore :(
A great moment in the game: Bird kicked, and Thurston came in to charge it down and lay a shot on Bird. Thurston ended up on the ground in a bundle, Bird was left on his feet.

Love it.

great game from NSW
the work on slater was excellent
just goes to show, sometimes your better off having a Manly fullback than a girly one!

i thought that bird was awesome but gasnier or quinn deserved mom

Gals worked hard all night n every tackle n hitup was a good one

The blues were awesome in defence, especially our outside backs, they got up on hunt n slater n shut them down

anyone else notice Gallen charging Thursty all night?

Whenever Thursty called for it and Gallen was nearby he came flying out of the line to put pressure on him. That had Thursty looking over his shoulder all night.

Yep- it was definitely a NSW plan to have Gallen monster Thurston- he must have nearly wiped him out after a kick about ten times- enough to keep Thurston contained.

wont be too much different because just as gallen was charging thurston all night, hoffman was charging khunt all night (even though he got belted most of the time) and khunt did nothing other than tackle to who game

And Cooper was marking Slater, every time Slater got the ball on a kick return Cooper was waiting. Did anyone else find it interesting that Carl Webb had such minimal game time?

while it was great to see the blues get up and a really polished performance from them, i thought the game could've been better.

maybe its just me but origin is supposed to be different. A whole different kind of animal where blokes spend atleast the first 20mins dead set laying each other out.

But the very first set showed that the game seems to have changed.

i mean the blues were running one out after the very first kick off (simple things, as you do) but they managed to make easy metres all the way out to the 45 for the kick!
and not one single monstering in the first 20mins!

i think that both teams, but especially the maroons, really needed to get a little more angry, much more aggressive and just get in there and smash people.

i'll tell you one thing though, queensland at suncorp will definitely be a much better team than the one we saw last night.

the players now know that if they get a bit to aggressive and start biffin then theres a chance that they could miss the following games and rule them selves out for a few weeks. its something to consider that some things in origin should not be referred to the judiciary just so we can see more aggressiveness like the old days where they would just knock blokes out if they were in a differnent coloured jersey. i know that say if birdy was layed out in origin and missed games cause hes broken his jaw or something then everyone here would have an uproar and be furious at the idea of no suspensions. it could bring some more fire back in the game if the idea was introduced. let them get away with stuff that they would normally be suspended for

i know that i didnt really write that to well but i hope it got the point across

Im a tru blu Queenslander and Im just goin to say u guys played well 2nite, u didnt let Thurston have any ball playing space BUT game 2 will be different especially when we choose Prince(Hopefully) besides u guys had the ref on ur side making very poor decisions all night that went against QLD all night

GAME 2 will be a different story I promise u that

Excuse me did I miss something.... I was at the game and the controling of the Queensland 10m was a joke, half their side was offside for most of the match, led alone a couple of head high tackles that were let slide.

And from a Blues point of view I really hope you guys dont pick Prince, he is in outstanding from and would have been a big benefit last night. Slip Hunt to fullback, JT to 5/8 and Prince at 1/2, now that would be threatening.
