Look, I know they're footy players and you can't expect too much. But it kills me that they don't get prepared better for these interviews. It looks like they hadn't prompted him with any of the questions, and shot the whole thing in one take.
It would be so easy to just tell them the question, let them think about their response and formulate it, then roll the thing and shoot.
A better quality product will increase their confidence and end up in better viewing for the fans.

While I do agree... it also wouldn't blow me away if our staff notified him what day they wanted to interview him and emailed him a copy (or left hardcopy in locker) and he glanced at it and though 'yeah, question about coming to Sharks, question about grand finals easy' and then didn't actually give it another thought until there was a camera on him, and it turns out his confidence was based more on not caring than his quality as a speaker or ability to think on his feet.
A somewhat different example but reminds me of when I did prac with Western Force... guy I was helping just wanted to take a picture of a player using their new self reporting program they were required to do. Took like 10 minutes to take one photo because the player wanted to figure out the best way to flex his arm while using a computer mouse so he'd look big in the picture.
While many at the club and many fans see these things as part of the job the players are not there to take photos or answer questions eloquently.
And as young guys they don't put a lot of effort into things they don't prioritise.
