Obviously Fitz felt we were left without answers after the Penrith game where we had 4 forwards and Kennedy went down early

Keep in mind Flanno used to have Beale on the bench for this very reason. Mind you we had guys like Gal and Fifs that could play 80 at the time.

I'd rather than an outside back on the bench instead of Moylan who can literally play 1 position :unsure:

Tracey and Hiroti cover more positions but were literally already in the team. At point Fitz decided he wanted cover it was Moylan or Atkinson.
Of course you can argue you'd prefer Dan or he covers more spots but Moylan has a lot more experience which coach will value. Hard to say at this stage either wouldn't be preferred as a 17th over Moylan - we will see come next game day.

Moylan spent time taking bombs and getting into hooker at Captains run so some chance he could be thrown into a different spot if absolutely desperate.

If needed to fill some time in middle Moylan also a tiny bit bigger than Dan and again, much more experienced. Moylan also okay defending off his line - makes a lot of first contacts where he lets himself get bounced off but slows the player enough others finish tackle. That's often on rep edge players. Doesn't do his stats any favours, but we don't really know how Dan would go stopping rep NRL forwards.
Unfortunately this tackle technique doesn't work whatsoever in tryline D and Moylan is able to recognise that so he compensates by just getting out of the way.
