As a beginner, it's not bad to look at the % owned of players. There is usually a reason some have a really high percentage and some very low.

To do well, you need to have some unique players though to beat everyone else, but it may take some time to work out who is good at footy and who scores well at Supercoach, as these are sometimes different. For example someone like Cooper Cronk was never relevant in Supercoach.

Thanks Proud, I spent a bit of time looking at the percentages of ownership when picking but tried to avoid some of the hype trains like Iro.

Yeah it's hard to tell as team lists aren't out yet. Iro will plummet as soon as people finalise their teams (assuming he isn't named). He's still sitting in my team atm waiting for me to swap him out if I find another cheap CTW who's starting.

I definitely benefited from waiting until after the first week of trials before deciding to give it a go.
Faamasili for example was a cheap prop option who I chucked in reserves after watching dogs.

Also should I be trying to keep a certain amount of salary on hand or be spending close to all?

You can change as much as you want before Rd1. It doesn't cost you any trades.

I usually spend it all, or as close too. I think I have 30k left at the moment. A little extra cash is nice if you end up close to an upgrade, but you definitely don't want to pick a worse player to sit with cash waiting to spend.

Decided to jump in give Supercoach a go.
Will prerequisite by saying no clue what I'm doing 🤣🤣

Have picked Grant and hynes/cleary because my understanding is I should but other picks are just guys I think will have good years for most part 😅
That’s a good start mate / you are on the right track - maybe grab Ponga as well !

I wish I wasn't so deep in that I could do that!

If it makes you feel better I've been obsessing over my selections ever since I made them and now regret this decision immensely.

Good question. I had around $100k left in the kitty and found that really helped give me wiggle room with necessary trades. But that's more a strategy than necessity I think

I’m pro leaving around 100k aside to start if you can.
Just makes early moves easier.

Sometimes during season you may have 3 or 400k depend where you’re at in the buy low sell high cycles

Def say have at least one of Cleary or Hynes. Take to many trades to get them both in later. I’m starting with both.

Hooker: Grant is the gun but couple others present viable alternatives, JMK and a kicking Api.

Fullback, you want two guns here, Ponga borderline a must have I’d say.

I have about 70k left so could upgrade to Ponga if really should but was worried about him missing games.

Will be curious to see how my CTW picks work out, thought Hutchison and salmon might be good cheap options there if both do end up starting for Dogs.

They are both good shouts, assuming Salmon clearly holds the bulk of the minutes over Curran.

Some of the dogs are iffy atm - Curran or Salmon, Hughes of Faamausili... one of each pairing likely to get way more minutes than the other.
And it might not be the guy named to start in round 1 who ends up with the minutes. I'm expecting decent chance I get burned here...

As for Ponga you could always worry about players missing games, he is of course an elevated risk. You want to guns their though and many of them are risks. Ponga, Turbo, Paps, Trell. I guess you could go Drinky and Walsh and honestly there is a very non zero chance that could be the best scoring pair. All these guys are weapons on their day. ATM I have Ponga and Paps. If they die they die.

Faamasili looks like he's jagged a starting spot for mine, was also very cheap so took a chance on him as well

He's just not very good for supercoach. Cleary takes too many points there.

There's atleast 6 fullbacks you'd want before him.
There is talk that he might move to 5/8 next year when Luai goes as they have some gun Fullback coming through. Not sure where I read it but if he does make the move I think he will score well there.

Originally had drinky/paps but had the coin left for Ponga so decided to risk him.

Have the storms young fullback in my CTW reserves in case Papi goes down early as well but not sure if having guys unlikely to make rd1 teams in extended squad is a good strategy or not.

Saw Toby Sexton was named in nsw cup trial at 7 this week so feel a little more confident about having hutcho in the backline now.

**** me I'm already addicted to this crap and the season hasn't even started yet!

They seem very high on this Cole kid though, partnering Cleary against Wigan
