Resting players from training would explain why it doesn't look like they knew each other out there last week. Lewis/Chad/Bird need to sort their communication and defense out close to line otherwise stick Chad on the wing in defense, he's become a liability and is getting run through without much help around him. Probably doesn't help Chad that Lewis gets interchanged with another player
I wouldn't get too carried away with Chad and Bird other than in the Roosters game when they were poor.
vs Titans
Try 1 - bomb
Try 2 -
right side ... Heighington is slow getting back. They get numbers and run an arc on Gallen.
Try 3 - left side ... Feki comes off his wing unnecessarily
vs Canberra
Try 1 - bomb
Try 2 -
right side ... soft try by Wighton ... Barba/Townsend. Not a positional issue. Maybe lazy or poor attitude, but not a misread.
Try 3 - left side ... McIlwrick runs up. Arm grab by Beale
Try 4 - left side ... lazy play by Prior. Brown can't cover.
vs Dragons
Try 1 - chip
Try 2 - left side .. awful, awful play by the whole left side (Maloney, Leutele, Beale all run in and leave 2 players unmarked. Probably a bit tough to blame Beale since he was left out cold marking 3 blokes.)
Try 3 - grubber
Try 4 - middle/left edge .. bad miss by Paulo
Try 5 -
right side ...
The bigger issue is the quick play the balls and the roll on teams are getting, but if I am pointing the finger at one particular side of the field (other than vs the Roosters) it is the left for sure... though it's a combination of players rather than the same guys getting beaten every time.
Everyone is singling out Chad and Bird for the Dragons' last try, which was soft and really decided the game because it put it out of reach. That one was definitely a bad read by Chad (it looked soft from Bird but he had to come of his guy at the last minute to try to cover Chad's mistake) but in the context of this poor run of games there are just as many other guys who have made bad decisions as him.
