Why this talk of being so tired. Would of thought winning a stack of games meant you more than likely made less tackles than the opposition. Origin players were given a rest. Do we play more games than other teams or something??
As of a few weeks ago we had made the least amount of tackles of all 16 teams in the season
Conversely we were around the 2nd most penalised team which would have played a part in needing to make so many of those tackles close to our line

I spose part of the argument is that it takes more physical and mental energy to win a game, not so much one off or initially but that it exponentially increases to back it up week after week after week without release

Regardless the whole Origin/Fatigue angle is a convenient way for Flanno to shift responsibility away from our deficiencies in defensive structure, discipline and adaptability to other teams coaches game plans against us

I'm not denying fatigue/injuries and lack of motivation is a reality or factor for us but I don't think it's our biggest issue and it's something all teams have to deal with at some point. I would respect Flanno & the team more for not resting on that as an excuse and actually addressing the underlying issues in our form. Can only go off what we see and they say publicly - could be different behind closed doors and I truly hope it is. If they are just hoping that a return of energy and motivation will be enough to get us back to winning and going all the way we are boned.

I'm fairly accepting of our recent losses and havn't wrist cutted, the opposition teams have been better than us and outplayed us, it happens and coincided with us not playing our best but I won't accept not turning this around and going deep into the finals. That would be a critical failure IMO

Fix our attitude and headspace
Fix our defense and discipline
Adapt/amend our gameplans

We need to start this week, finals are round the corner

I'm hoping that Flanno has taken the foot off the pedal for a month and is trying to get the team to peak again just in time for the finals.

I've seen people on here rubbish the idea of athletes needing to peak at the right time but it seems to be an accepted truth over most sports, including the Olympics and even horse racing.

I remember Flanno saying a while back that he was resting some players from training during the week so this may have taken us off the boil a bit.

It's a long season and I hope we end up getting our timing right. I have no doubt that the coaching staff at the Sharks would be taking these sort of things into consideration.

I'm ok with that Thresher, there is some sense behind it but only if Flanno is still analytical about it and is paying attention to the areas of improvement required that have been presented over the course of the season.
It can't just be about energy, emotion and timing, there is still another level of execution we must reach to go all the way, with teams like Melbourne & Brissy in the comp anyway

Flanno is a solid coach but his attention to detail and stubbornness has often given me doubts

If we start training the house down and fixing things up then I will give him all the due credit he deserves, he's given us a fantastic spring board into the finals with an excellent regular season, just needs to make sure we follow through now

Yep it's common practice to have heavier weeks followed by periods of tapering. I'm pretty sure NRL teams do this as well but not 100% sure.

I just listened to the Sharkcast from last week. I think they said that we didn't train all week before the Canberra game. Not sure what is classified as training though.

The main problem I have at the moment is not that we are in physical weak (although this seems obvious), rather that our structure just seems to be totally out of whack. Maybe one feeds into the other, but really they seem to be falling down with certain things that they should be doing out of habit.

Also wondering whether if the team feels like we've taken the foot off the gas they may let their standards temporarily drop in other areas too. Like structure and the 1 percenters.

It may be a subconscious thing.

Just a thought anyway, I could be well of the mark.

It's a bit like walking home from the pub after 15 schooners and you have a craving for a kebab, but you come across a hotdog stand first and settle for that instead.

Quality post Gards... I still have to pinch myself to think we won 15 bloody games in a row. Agree I also was happy to use fatigue as a factor, but now fatigue bruised and battered are now not an excuse that we can go to , we had a dream run early in the year in this regard, when the storm couldn't keep a outside back on the field to save themselves, or manly n roosters were also decimated. Time to put the excuse book away and show others that we belong.
I'm still dizzy with excitement we can do real real well this year.

Unbelievable as a young bloke after smashing 15+ vodka raspberries how sick those bloody kebabs or hotdogs (mostly hotdogs vans in my day) could make me... I could leave a little trail home like hansel n Gretel.

Yes mate, the 15+ vodkas had nothing to do with you getting sick. :)

Think we need JSL to play this week, really need that extra big man on the bench against a big rabbits pack.

Thanks vic, good to see some fans keeping the faith
I feel concerned at the moment but a couple good wins leading into the finals will get me pumped again

Beale on the wing doesn't inspire me but maybe the shift out will give him some motivation. Bench does look better. Hard game this one. Harder to pick a winner. Go sharks.
