The try-no try ref call needs to go. While we are still using grainy **** slow motion footage in replays theres always gunna be controversy about some of the groundings/sideline touches too
Yeah the try/no try has always been guesswork which makes it ridiculous

Flanno has always resisted making changes to his sides, win or lose. Will this be our undoing come the finals, or smart coaching keeping team continuity?

We have lost one game since April... Why keep changing a winning formula when he has had to make a call he has loots/Beale , it's not like anyone has been kicking down the door in nsw cup according to those who watch it.

Watching the rapana try (first try) ashley klein runs over from 30 metres away, but can still come up with an opinion of the try.

Imo if the ref can make a call, make it. If he cant, bunker. But if the ref has no idea why does he get a say in the decision?.
How many tries do we see with 'insufficient evidence to overturn' because of grainy footage not being able to determine if the on field call was wrong.

after watching the game ,I've noticed the sharks have slowly declined in the last 4-5 weeks, you can say its a short turnaround or recovering from a tough game against the titans but in reality we are not playing the footy you would expect from a side coming 1st.
paramatta or manly would have given us a run yesterday , we are playing like a team trying to just make the 8, not like a team trying to win our maiden premiership,... not bitter about the loss i'm bitter about the same feeling that comes up every year ...disappointment

We havent played our best footy for a while now. Newy, roosters and titans games were all pretty scratchy performances.

We looksd fairly lost without ennis out there i thought. Our passes were all off. If anything i thought it resembled the loss to manly in round 3.

Hopefully we can notch up another win or 2 in the coming weeks to sure up 2nd.

Then it begs the question what do u do round 26. If it was a situation where win or lose we come 2nd do we rest blokes for fatigue reasons in the storm game or what?

How you can have the same feeling as every other year is hard to fathom, We got beaten by the 3rd place raiders who had won 5 in a row after a 90 minute Monday night game. if the storm got beaten by the 13th place Rabbitohs last night, you rekon their fans would be calling Bellamy out for not making changes, cause they were unconvincing against the Knights few weeks back, loses happen rather it happens now then September or 1st week of October. It may well be the loss we had to have.

You can't rest blokes..cause you finish top 2 win 1st week you get another week off, 1 game in 3 weeks to me would spell serious trouble, plus the coach has said resting is about training schedule not real game time, heard other more experienced coaches say the same thing during the year.

i think we've been average for a month, but i agree. id rather a few losses now, get the team feeling a little less invincible and maybe emphasise some of our weaker points so we can address them before the games that really matter

Agree we are a long way of sparkling form, but let's not get all dramatic about "it feels the same as every other year."

Yeah obstruction is black and white, but double movement is foggy IMO. If you changed the rule, then the bunker is looking for the ball or arm touching the ground before the line, whereas at the moment they have to determine things like momentum and what is "promoting the ball" as opposed to grounding the ball. Issue of normal speed and slo mo come into it and it becomes interpretive. Which is the enemy of clear cut.
Promoting the ball is initiating a movement that was not the result of momentum, ie reaching out. If you say that the arm can't touch the ground you lose so many tries when people slide/get cut down just before the tryline.

Can't rest anyone for that game IMO especially if we are playing average footy leading up to that game. A win against the storm has the ability to push us into the finals in the right mind set where as a loss doesn't change much.

People are underestimating just how big a loss ennis was last night, without him the raiders knew that the short ball was never coming from dummy half and therefore they were able to shut down our backline movements much more effectively.

Fair enough. So clarify the rule to mean "any movement of the arms at all, before or after the line, if the ball touches the ground before the line, results in a no try". Or whatever. Terms like "promoting the ball", and "momentum" are interpretive and add in more grey which is the problem now we have the bunker.

if Melbourne have the minor premiership in the bag before that game i have no doubt bellamy rests his big names. If that happens and we run out full strength it doesnt really mean much for us either if we win.

I dont underestimate the loss of ennis at all. Before the game i said, now we have a capable 6 and 7 at least with ennis movin gon we have quality halves to help organise the side. Maybe that loss last night, with ennis missing will really show flanno that next year we cant just take a gamble on who is our hooker, we have to try and get someone capable. We were lost last night and it was obvious. But im also not going to discount how hard canberra actually made it for us, they gave us nothing

Agreed if Cronk/Smith were rested it wouldn't be worth as much, but you wouldn't be able to prepare for that as they wouldn't be announced out till kick off.

Wasn't saying you were, I was agreeing with you, mightn't have worded it well. Neither Nu or McIlwrick impressed at hooker last night, it's going to be a big hole to fill.

The Titans loss today adds to the argument that the 5 day turnaround from a 90 minute hard game was a factor in our loss to the raiders.
