If only we had a different coach, we would have won that eh ;)

Look, I'm happy to give Flanagan another year and see what he can do but even the most passionate sharks fan must admit that this season has been a let down. For me it all started when they decided to extend him after we got towelled up in the trial games. But I got over that. Then there was talk of another extension mid year??? For what exactly? I thought that 10 wins and strong home performances would be a pass mark. We have four games to go and none of them are going to be easy, even the Roosters.

Given that if we finish on 7 wins do you think we are being coached well? We are at a bit of a crossroads in my opinion. We have a number of excellent juniors coming through and how these juniors are managed will be the difference in whether we return to being a force in the NRL our continue to be also rans. I'm happy for next year to again be another building year as long as Flanagan finds a place for Mills, Townsend, Peachey, Frizell and maybe Pickerd. These guys won't stick around to play NSW cup behind lesser talented players. I'd rather we get beat by giving our youngsters experience than getting beaten with a team full of nuffy imports.

Pleeeaaasssse. Can we not have posts about new coaches. What rubbish!

Flanno has got a pass mark, IMHO.

He is still working with Sticks left overs. He has blooded a number of jrns and got us higher on the ladder than most judges had us.

Give it a break, he has made some errors in judgement but they are hardly sackable offences in his first full year as head coach.

I agree Harold i have been pretty happy with Flanno. He has done well for a rookie coach and he is very professional. As you said he has proven alot of the "experts" wrong.

Tbh, I don't believe there is any need to panic, mate.

With the limited capabilities our current roster has, where we are atm is currently two spots below what I would've expected at the start of the season.

If we were to finish 10th we've had a reasonably good season.

Once our NYC players grow into mature first graders, we will be back in the finals in no time.

My thoughts:

Not our worst performance ever. We lost by 2 goal conversions. Poor 5th tackle kicks and Titans on-line defense was the difference. Change one of those factors and we win. I can only think everyone saying it was worst ever because of all our chances and it has been a long season. I admit it was a weird feeling game.

Titans are a rubbish team but brought a good attitude and defended their try line extremely well with alot of strength and desperation shown. FFS they stopped blokes like Gallen and Toops over the line, give them some credit.

Despite some selfishness or lack of vision in hogging the ball alot of individual perfomances were strong. Gallen, Smith, Toops, Ricky, Stapo ect.

Poms had a very good game, he did more than just score a try. All of his runs were strong and with purpose. He was a headache for the Titans. Wasn't tested in defense though but he can't be blamed for that. Well done to him after some howlers in past games.

Our attack still looks better than it did under Ricky.

Gordon is decent depth for Gardner - he was safe.

The black jerseys need to go (once a year at most). We want pride and heritage, especially at our home ground. We want the black, white and blue and I hope the players do to. I want them to look down on their jersey and know who they play and bleed for. I'm sceptical of other alternate jerseys but if they are for charities that's fantastic and is more important than a game of footy. The green socks were just wrong though last game.

TT breaks the hearts of Shark fans nearly every game he plays and anyone but him will be an upgrade. He does have some ability but please Flanno never again for the Sharks.

Chad had a poor game with the boot but I hold no malice against him what so ever. He is young and was thrown into FG to steer around a stubborn and under performing Sharks team. He sometimes gets some rubbish ball from dummy half as well. He has done so well this year. He will bounce back from that game, continue to develop and be a key Sharks player of the future. He looks more dangerous than most of the half backs we have had in the last few years and always gives 100%. You could tell he was upset with that game.

Teams attitude was lax and not alligned with Flanos positive and desperate "we can still make the finals" call. The sharks didn't even look that excited when they scored some of their tries. They knew they were already hanging up the boots on 2011. Mentally the team is shot. This has happened in the back end of the last 3 seasons.

Fickle fans or not, now is not the time to get stuck into one another about attendance. We all share the same common plight, we are watching a very poor Sharks side running around. Support the team the best you can, encourage people to get to the games but don't beat on them. We have all been through the **** with this team.

I'm still going to watch the rest of their games, I hope you all have the courage to do the same. They need to regain some pride and build for 2012.

Pretty poor performance. Sure, the game was close but when you consider our field position, possession, opportunities and penalty count it has to be wondered how we didn't win this game...

Although it is not wondered for long... there was poor goal line defence (which has been uncharacteristically present for a few weeks now) and poor finishing of opportunities.

I do not blame Flanno for this. I think he has guided our team in making some positive strides this year, but I do question the decision to drop Gardner in what was a must-win game. I have an unsubstantiated feeling it is due to ego, as I have read Gal making comments about Gards needing to keep a level head before but still, we needed that win and while I rate Gordon, he is no Gardner. He is just as quick but does not make the needed tackle busts.

Glad to see Leutele get a crack but he wasn't particularly good.

The season is over now, which is a shame, but this year has been an improvement. I now say drop Townsend so he can play NYC finals and bring in Kelly to get some game time under his belt. We should also be dropping Tautai who is on the way out for someone like Frizell. Let's build toward next year and make sure our depth/fringe players are ready for 2012, because this year they were not.

I was kinda hoping all that talk about us looking to Nathan Brown was on the money. I just think he would be a good first grade coach. And yes, I know, he had a star studded Dragons team in the earlly 00's and couldn't win **** but he was a very young coach at that stage who has had alot more experience since then. And he has shown he has no problem slapping sense into anyone. :) But as I stated, Flanagan has the right to another season in charge and see what he can do. Lets just not extend him for 5 years in the off season. He is very Ricky like thought isn't he? Not in personality but in approach to the game.

I think Nathan Brown is a good coach but I don't think he is the man for our club. I think Flanno has done a good job with our side and I think the best is yet to come (not too hard I concede). The players seem like they want to play for him and he is improving the issues that have been a staple of our performances in the last couple of years (ball control, discipline, attack etc). He also got our defence back to where it was (for the most part).

The things that have gone wrong this season, which have mainly been injuries, luck and confidence, are partly in his control but more rest on the shoulders of the players.

Having a new coach again will not make the changes we need. We have changed the board and the coach in the last couple of years and now we are bringing in a bunch of new players to go with the ones we brought in this year and the debuting youngsters, to make a whole new playing group. I now want to see how we go next year with this group and coach. If we end up in this position again, then yes, it may be time to begin asking some questions and I agree, there is no need to go extending him for 5 years, despite his reputation and junior record.

Have to pull you up on a few things there mate. The way we have played over the last few weeks with a finals spot on the line suggest the players arent playing for him at all.

Our defence has actually gotten alot worse under Flanagan. We have lost 8 games by 13+ this year, second only to the Faiders and Titans. On the plus side we have won 6 games 13+ and 1 by 1-12. To me that reeks of an inconsistant football team.

I get where you are coming from mate and it's nice to remain positive but it's professional football and all the players get paid really well including the coach. Ruthless stuff.

I agree about the last few weeks. You do have to wonder about the team's desire with the season on the line. I would argue the team is fatigued and lost Gallen at the worst possible time (i.e right after a massive loss to the Dragons which completely killed our momentum) but I cant say for sure that they are playing for him I spose.

It is hard for me to argue the statisitics, but I will say that there have been many games this year where we have shown excellent goal line defence, often defending repeated sets. But there have been other games (like the last few especially) where this intensity and attitude has been missing. I would argue that this is the result of having many young players in a side with little confidence but again, obviously speculation.

I see why people are irritated and asking questions but I also think that the improvement compared to last year and the year before is there for all to see. But if we get anything other than a top 8 spot next year then it is a failure.

I think the commentators were absolutely horrible for this game too.

Townsend probably didn't have as good a kicking game as normal but I think the commentators and maybe some others have been harsh on him. I was actually really impressed with the other facets of his game.
