One challenge is more than enough imo. No need to slow the game dowm more.

No one's fault but ours we're so **** at using it. Another ridiculous challenge by Wade tonight.

I wonder what level of communication goes on between the team.

To some extent Wade is going to have to rely on his teammates to give him good feedback. Being out on an edge there’s a lot he’s not going to have a good view of. The communication between the team needs to be clear and accurate. If you’re involved in a play and it’s 50/50 then don’t lobby for a challenge with the captain. But if you 100% know the call is wrong then it needs to be challenged.

What I’m saying is, I think the whole team needs to work on what’s worth a challenge and what is not. They probably need a better system and better inputs.

There's been bugger all improvement in this club since 2016. massive hangover
What do you expect? All of the 2016 have either retired or left for better deals all on the back of the GF win.
This team we're building now will be a gun team in a season or 2.
Just gotta be patient.

I think we’ve done pretty well to stay as relevant as we have. Finals each year, prelims in 2018, and we’ve managed to cultivate a crop of really promising young players (rudolf, Brailey, mulitalo, trindall etc) ready to push for another premiership.

We haven’t been great since 2016 but at least we’ve not dropped off the radar a la rabbits, cows, manly etc.

Let’s not get too doom and gloom just because we lost to the best team in the comp

Our missed tackles are the telling stat end of story.
This misses are costing us field position and exhausting our energies.

Not even all the favours in the world from officials will help us if we dont fix that. We are worst in the comp for it and the 2nd, 3rd and 4th worst are all down the bottom of the table.
We are over achieving right now by actually being in the 8

Yeah maybe overachieving, but rekon shows how weak the bottom 10 teams are, you only have to see how towelled up us manly tigers copped this week. I’ll b happy to squeak into the 8 and give all the young guys a chance to experience finals pressure and intensity. Some can paint it any way they want blaming refs the draw rule changes whatever we are a good step or two off the top teams this year.

It's been a great year, touch wood. Really enjoying the Blend of players (Ex Moylan), and surprise wins, in what i thought was a 10th Position Team. Its refreshing, after watching a team that should have done better since the GF. Yes we underachieved, particularly 2017, but i think this team, all things considered, especially with the Zerri situation, is going great. We just now hold on to 7th/8th, i think it will be very satisfying, and a good step for the beginning of realistically, a 2/3 year rebuild.

2018 we were awsome with val at the back. We were coming home against the roosters in the first final and if lewis didnt drop it we probably would have won and had the second week off. They obviously went on to win it.

Weve had a pretty good year with our usual slow start telling in a shortenned season

It’s our defence that is the problem as we all know, but how do we fix it? I look at the team and there’s not a whole lot I would want to get rid of. Is it just an experience thing as we have a young side or do we need to look at our coaching? Do we need a few more seasoned professionals and if so, who?

These are the questions that need answers. We are brilliant in attack, but we miss far too many tackles and can’t withstand any pressure on our goal line. It’s not just against the best sides we leak points either, also against the weaker sides if they have a go at us close to the line they often come up with points. Tigers - 28, Cowboys - 16, Dragons- 30, Dogs- 18, Manly- 22, Dragons- 24, Broncos- 26, Titans- 18

Surprise wins? Theres not one game we’ve won you wouldnt expect us to win (except Manly maybe but they were smashed with injuries). Losses to Tigers and Saints early werent good

Surprise in the Context of Pre Season, running the eye over our team, per the rest/others. Couldn't honestly see us gelling, and beating some teams we have, at that point, was what i meant. To me where we sit, is a (Pleasant) unexpected surprise.Other supporters where on paper at the beginning of the year, had optimism for their sides, must be very disappointed where , their teams currently are at.Don't wanna Jinx it but.

Defence is attitude - something the coaching staff needs to address. Everyone’s happy to run around and score tries but what’s the point if you crack under any sort of pressure

I’ve been away since Friday and only saw the score then.

Clearly we didn’t play great it seems bit missing our starting halves can’t help.

Did we just not turn up?

Any injuries or judiciary issues to worry about?

It's not that we didn't turn up (except SJ, who literally didn't turn up... with good reason), more that we were playing at Reggie's speed, where Penrith were at finals team pace.

As someone posted earlier in this thread, too many of our players haven’t moved on from 20’s defence to NRL defence. I actually think they have the right attitude, they just need more time. This of course doesn’t explain Matt Moylan.

Our defence is clearly what is costing us in these big games & it shows our level we are at compared to the current standout teams. Missing way too many easy tackles with hardly any effort to even have a go properly. Most teams are clearly making 60-70mtrs on us every set & that puts them in a good position end of every set. Got no issues with our attack, it's just we had SJ out, probably a reason we didn't seem to go too crash hot this weekend. JM needs to spend a bit more time focusing on our defence for the rest of the year if we want to have a go in the 8. We use to rush up in defence as a pack & that use to reduce the metres for the teams, these days we just stay right back & give them the easy momentum.

Watched the game again. Our best halves pairing is Trindall/Johnson. Or Atleast Chad/Johnson, with Trindall on the bench.
