Be a big loss for them, him and Austin out. I haven't seen the tackle but seems like most people think if Ennis got off then he should be fine.

It's in the game highlights at around the 2:55 mark.

Yep it sure would be, Boyd is also in some doubt which would be handy.

I thought it looked bad in real time but after watching in slow motion it doesn't appear to be any worse then Ennis. If Ennis got off then Jack should get off. But let's hope the MRC throws another curve ball in the mix and suspends him that would be excellent. He was placed on report, got a penatly and looked to be a professional foul as well which may add to the case of him getting a week on the sidlelines

Very different incidents. Biggest differences IMO is that there is head contact and also that the right forearm comes up. I wouldn't go as far as to say is is "raised" because I think it came up after the contact rather than before.

From NRL.com
https://www.nrl.com/wighton-cited-for-shoulder-charge/tabid/10874/newsid/101007/default.aspx

"The offence carries a base penalty of 350 points but, because the player has two prior offences in the last two years, it increases to 490 points.

With an early plea the penalty can be reduced to 367 points."

and ...

"In the case of Michael Ennis, it’s very clear that the left arm of Ennis is away from his body and not tucked into his side.

"So no charge was laid.

"In the Wighton incident the MRC was satisfied that all three indicators were present and so a charge has been laid."

**

I think the Raiders should/will contest the grading.

Currently:
Base: 350
Loading: 140 (2 x 70 - i.e 2 x 20% of base)
Early plea = 25% off
Total = 367

Contest the Grading
Base: 200
Loading: 80 (2 x 40 - i.e. 2 x 20% of base)
No early plea available.
Total = 280

No way he can argue that he is not guilty - but downgrading to grade 1 would be a fair result. The big issue for Wighton is his charge history/loading, as even an original grade 1 charge with an early plea would have seen him miss 2 games (210 points)

When you watch it, it's quite stupid from Wighton. I don't know why you'd approach that tackle in that manner?

It was awkward as ****, even without the shoulder charge rule.

He does some pretty dumb things, wasn't he the player who threw that ridiculous pass against St George on fulltime or golden point earlier in the year?

Seriously though, 3-4 weeks is pretty funny.

Surely he won't be able to get it downgraded all the way to 0 games

he'd have to plead not guilty and fight the charge completely for that to happen

Anyone know how many he will miss if it gets downgraded to a grade 1?

Does the prior loading still count if he gets it down to a grade 1? He'd still miss a week minimum in that case wouldn't he?

We need to start thinking about how we can **** this Viking clap over before the game.

Get the trumpeter going and get all Sharkies fans to sing UP! UP! would be a good start.

At the very least if he fights it and gets off, it'll be a disruption to their week.

Teams who sing their team song before the end siren deserve to lose.

Let em do that ****, it wont help them in the end when we pile 40 unanswered points. I say if we win we sing up up cronulla and do the clap ourselves haha.

His options are:

1. early plea - miss 3 games and possibly a grand final
2. fight it ... and risk missing 4 games and would definitely miss a grand final if they make it
3. contest the grading and plead guilty... miss 2 games if successful or 4 if unsuccessful

He won't get off - so contesting the grading is the best shot he's got.

Good idea, maybe start clapping when they do the drums, so that way it just sounds like lots of clapping haha

Yes - prior loading still applies - see post #81. Prior loading is 20% of the base. Minimum is 2 weeks.

Quick refresher ...

Prior loading for non-similar incident is 20% of the base, per incident in the last 2 years (but grade 1 careless high tackles are only carried over for 1 year)
Prior loading for a similar offense is 50% of the base, per incident in the last 2 years (but all grade 1 offenses are only carried over for 1 year)
Early plea is 25% off the total charge, but you can only get this for an "early" guilty plea, such that even contesting the grading and pleading guilty doesn't qualify

Wighton had a grade 2 careless high tackle on 31 Aug 2015, and also a grade 1 charge for contact with an official in June 2016. These both count as non-similar incidents. Wighton also has 5 carry over points ... which aren't enough to be an issue here.

If they were smart they would go for a downgrade so hes there if they make the grand final

Speaking of which who takes his place?
