I guess if we are trying to pin to corner (which we absolutely are) kicking from shortside allows a straight kick, rather than crossfield with more risk of going long (out). Altering kick position to go higher accuracy kick.

Doesn't help when you kick on your offside low into someone's legs though.
Also if you skew one off the side of the boot there's not much margin for error.

True, but trying to kick relatively straight that should happen less often. I'm assuming we have identified it as the higher percentage play.

Nicho being tackled and Dan jumping straight to right short side to kick cemented it is game plan and not just a Nicho preference.

I noticed even Atkinson went over to that side on one occasion and put in the same kind of kick , so clearly a tactic .
Drinkwater last week must've got pissed having nowhere to go set after set .

Wasn't a bad kick either. Landed less than 10 out.

Agree. I like the play, little 3/4 bomb landing around the 20 m line, then having to go couple passes wide straight away with opposition still trying to get on side.
Having a fullback have to run forward catch and brace for contact down the short side is a little something different.

It’s a high percentage play for field position. I do admit though I worry a bit that when the time comes that we’re in a close game & need attacking kicks or repeat sets that our insistence to either just kick to the corner or get tackled in the corner could hurt us

Attacking kicks come inside good ball not 30+ out & forcing line dropouts isn't what it used to be - deadset ZERO risk to trying for the short dropout to get the ball back now & I hate it.

Yep. If I wanted to watch Union I'd go and watch Union.

There’s plenty of times we’re in a good spot to put up an effective bomb but we either just run into the corner or kick there. Now to me that’s our best option because I don’t think we have the kicking game required to pull of some of those amazing bombs that a Reynolds/Cleary type pull off. But I also think this is an area that’s potentially going to stop us taking the next step.

With our current game plan the quality of the kick isn’t as important as long as we do everything else right but I worry that when it comes up crunch time against the big boys that just won’t be enough.

Basically I just worry that we’re a bit too one dimensional in this area.

Really ? It felt like we were putting up kicks on opposition try line this so far this season pretty often… think we’ve even scored a couple tries from it.
