Yeah I read it, don't see why people are getting so sensitive about it tbh.
I have read “an article” not sure if it was “the” article but the one I read was tame enough.
Just says he isn’t ready to take in the 7 role yet but would have kept him in the 14.
Same one???

Not much in it TBH, but I’d still love to see QLD smash this blues side just so Dickler can be ****ed right off

Gus and Fitlers are close mates and Gus has been talking Moses up ever since Cleary went down.

Wouldn't suprise me if they agreed to be good cop, bad cop and Gus be the one to down play Hynes.

Though in this case it's dumb cop, bad cop
Well that just shows that Dickler is gutless then doesn’t it.

Have any of you actually watched the part on 100% it pertains too?

In context it’s pretty reasonable what Gus said.
Gus also said he would have had Nicho on the bench for game two and didn't agree with the two hooker approach (in some other thing I read)

This was it:

Gould said Hynes needs to develop his game to lead a team around the park.

“Nicho is a long way off running a team by himself at this level at the moment,” he said.

“He hasn’t taken the Sharks to finals (Cronulla was bounced out in straight sets during the 2022 NRL Finals series). He needs a lot more big game experience before he’s ready to wear the No. 7 in Origin.

“I though he was perfect off the bench. I like him off the bench. He can cover a number of positions. Late in the game he could get on there and just bring his own flare.

“But to start the game and withstand the early barrage and the pressure of the atmosphere and to actually steer his team around on the field and take responsibility for that, I just think it’s a little too early for him.”

What a ****.

I think the talk of Nicho needing a game managing 7 next to him is a bit of a cop out. Not saying that it might not be good for the team to have that role, it just doesn't put any accountability on Nicho for the way he plays in those games.

Snowman made a comment in another thread that we play like we have ADHD sometimes, I think this sums up Nicho quite well.

I think a good comparison is SJ. In the peak of his powers, there was always talk of how he needed a good game managing half next to him so he could focus on his running game etc. Even when he had that, it didn't stop him shitting the bed when the pressure was on and overplaying his hand, leading to years of mediocrity. It hasn't been till later in his career when he's gained the composure to build pressure and support the side in multiple ways.

I think Nicho needs to learn this lesson real quick. He's got the keys to the kingdom, and whilst we need more from his halves partner, we also need more from him, or atleast more diversity. He needs to participate in getting us into the grind, respecting the ball in our end and building pressure on the goal line through repeat sets. This will go a long way to turning around our fortunes against the better sides.

Hynes's form has been patchy since the (delayed) start of the season. Which reflects how the team in general is going. He's still consistently one of our best, if not, our best player in the field every week, and w need him in top physical and mental shape.

The whole Origin debacle is on Fittler/Alexander and other string-pulling nuffies that circle around the Blues set-up.

Getting out of this **** show early, albeit with a bit of Game 1 stink following him, is in my opinion the best thing that could have happened.
Gives him a bit of extra motivation (in a "Should have given me a fair go and I'll show you why" kind of way), and allows him to focus on the Sharks. We're not guaranteed a Top 8 spot yet, and that should be his main focus.

Fittler's tenure is surely coming to an end, and he'll get another opportunity down the road.

Good thing about Nicho (I hope it's a good thing) is when SJ wasn't getting things his way he'd go missing. Nicho keeps trying his arse off, just needs to be slightly less arse and slightly more brain sometimes.

Like Maloney Nicho typically isn't afraid to get burned again. Even now when not in his best form he keeps trying, needs to get out of his head and look at the game circumstances and adjust though. Just go right we dropped the ball the last two sets, I'm not gunna throw a bludger at Talakai just in case it pays off, I'll just take the tackle.
The kick on the 3rd if it had looked anything like being a 20/40 actually could have been decent play, straight down the guts it was useless though and we should have taken another run or two then kicked. He wanted out of our defensive 20 though and made an adjustment to try and achieve that... we'll assume that is a sign he's headed in the right direction...

(that still doesn't mean I think Maloney just automatically should be our assistant coach though)

Yep it's definitely not the perfect analogy, but I think we agree on the sentiment. It's all about picking and choosing his moments to be expansive, and its been the sentiment of many press conferences this year so far.

I have no doubt he will get there though as his attitude and application seems impeccable.

Gus has always said that when picking a team, he picks the bench first.

He also says he doesn’t want guys who play off the bench in the NRL, he wants guys who can play 80, so he has cover for multiple scenarios that might arise during a game.

So I can understand why he would want a guy on the bench who can cover the halves and fullback.

need to remember he has only played 30 odd games as a halfback, his decision making will get better with experience. we will have more games like last week, its part of the learning curve.

we once put 64 on a newcastle team that has joey johns and some other handy players

This weeks game will be his 36th game for the Sharks which equals how many games he played at Melbourne.
I didn't think he had played that many for the Storm and thought the number would have been around 20.

I don't like how Gus said he was 'fragile' after the loss and 'was upset he only got on with 12 mins to go'

To me that sounds like Nicho was being a spoiled brat (which I'm sure he wasn't)

Everything else I haven't got a problem with.
