Hynes plays both roles already, we have a genuine halfback who is ready to go who can help him manage games and also steer the team if Nicho isnt firing or gets shut down by opposition.

We will not win a premiership with the current halves combo, come finals Nicho will be the main target to pressure and shut down. I do like Moylan as a player, but he is not going to step up and grab the steering wheel if Nicho lets go, he might try, and then steer us all over the road though because he's not use to it haha.

Every main guy you guys are talking about still needs a halves partner that can do their part of game management also, help take the workload and pressure off

Not specific to just you, but the convo in general....

Is there any evidence Trindall is a better game manager than Moylan? A quote from someone well placed, or some kind of empirical data?
Or he just kicks more and doesn't have a smarmy face?
I'm all for Trindall getting a go but I can't honestly say I know for a fact he is a better 'game manager' than Moylan is.
Any quotes that say for first 3 rounds Trindall was running the team not Moylan?
He kicks more and is a better kicker, I definitely agree with that. But controls a team more? I've seen no evidence. Not saying he definitely doesn't, but playing 7 in Cup only proves so much when Metcalf (not a noted 7) can play halfback there most of the season with Miller at 6 and be solid.

Does Luai do 'his part of the game management'? Like Trindall/Moylan this seems like something most couldn't truly know. From a hands on the ball perspective, he mostly just plays one side of the field, it's hard for me to see how he would do much more than Moylan in your average game.

Fitz & Mooney had every opportunity to not re-sign Moylan if he isn't worth it.

There's people in here that have been crowing for Trindall for years, should have been promised the 7 jersey years ago apparently (we likely don't sign Hynes...). They've declared him a sure thing to be lost to us previously too and no team snatched him away.
He'll presumably eventually get a crack and if he goes well they'll act like they've been right for years and if he doesn't they'll blame someone else or go quiet. The people who think he should get a crack when our supposed decent coach thinks it is best for the team are also going to be right when he locks down a spot too.

I'm all for people saying they want to see Trindall get a crack, but that he should be given 7 over Hynes because of his advanced game management skills... I don't know they exist.

Was on James Graham's podcast this week.
Had a listen on the drive to work this morning. Really interesting chat. Nicho's got a little cult leader quality about him... his ability to say the right thing to connect with people is pretty phenomenal

Tricky whack-a-mole is my new favourite game...

Tricky will leave if we don't give him the #7
Moylan never kicks
Tricky doesn't kick it to legs anymore
Tricky's a great defender
Tricky's got a huge boot

Latest one is that he is a great game manager. Probably has some merit. I reckon a team with Tricky in it would never, ever do something like blow a 22-6 halftime lead and end up losing 29-28.

Nicho can be my main man any day of the week

(not Wednesday that's Trivia night)
Are suggesting Nicho is no good at trivia, or does he just not like beer and chicken wings?

Trindall's a genuine halfback with all the qualities, attributes and potential, for me I'm not saying he's a better 7 than Hynes, i'm saying he'd be a better fit for him as a halves partner helping him more. Yes i think Tricky would be a better game manager than Moylan, managing games is a requirement of the position he's been playing for majority of his footy life and has shown it in games, compared to Moylan being a fullback turn running five eighth. He also needs more time in first grade to mature, build his game week in week out to prove that more. I wasnt a fan of Tricky before, thought he'd never advance mentally, but seeing his development from last year to the start of this season he's shown he's ready to be a regular top grade half back and step up. Moylan has had lots of time and chances to prove himself, and now he is heading towards the end of his career, he isnt going to develop further, evolve, learn to do more with game management or be taught new tricks. As much as Nicho is the "main guy" and everyone wants him to do everything, he still needs help with game management and sharing the workload (and yes Luai does help cleary with the workload, he also manages games when cleary is out, and managed games for Samoa who went to the final of WC). In big games/big stage or against strong form teams, nicho cant always carry the team on his own or rely solely on him to lead and manage games, he is always going to be the oppositions no.1 target to pressure or shut down and he has too much weighing on him. Trindall can do the same things Moylan does, and one of his strengths is his kicking game, kicking for territory and kicking us out of trouble would be handy, something nicho and moylan are not known for.

As for signing Moylan on, i think everyone would agree they would've gave him 1 year or let him go. I do like Moylan but i've also seen enough. Fitzy obviously sees something, and after making second place gave more reason to beleive in him (He also showed form last year). I dont believe this halves combo can go all the way though, and we will have Moylan there for another season and i hope we dont keep getting the same outcome or result like last year, struggling to close out games or compete against stronger teams in the finals.

Seems like a lot of just you think he’d be better at it which unfortunately I won’t personally take as evidence.

Moylan has played a decade in the NRL as a spine player, you don’t think he could learn more about running an NRL team in that time than trindall learnt playing as a teenager wearing a 7 because he was the best player in the randomarse club he played for as a teen?

Also the suggestion he can’t learn or develop anything being an older player is also a stretch. Benji Marshall for example is a good example of someone who was very much one style of footballer but managed to change up what he delivered.

Trindall might be a better game manager than Moylan. He might not be. I’m still not convinced we can claim that he is as fact.

Random arse club? He was sharks jersey flegg and jets halfback that helped steer them to win grand finals and a state championship. He's a genuine halfback, it does make a difference when it comes to game management. You got souths that were willing to let their most experienced player go who won them a title and trust in the development of their rookie Ilias, Broncos let go of a bunch of experienced halves, trusting in Mam, Bennett chose a rookie Katoa who had never played an nrl game over Milford who has a decade of experience, played in a grand final, represented Samoa, Qld and Australia's pm team. They seem to be all going pretty good

Moylan has played a decade of footy, and his best footy was when he was a fullback at penrith, but he wasnt a game manager. He became a fill in five eighth, then eventually got to slow for fullback because of injuries and turned into a fulltime 6. If you think he can still change and learn new things then like Benji at the end of his career, Moylan can learn to come off the bench and be a utility to try bring some impact or a spark👍🏾

Flanno was U20s halfback of the year. Standing out in juniors doesn’t guarantee anything.

Trindall must be good because Mam is just isn’t enough evidence for me, especially when Mam, a halfback, is playing 6 behind ARey they brought it.

You don't think Tricky has a decent boot on him? I'm not proposing he's a Matt Burton/Moses who hammer it, but I thought the first few rounds his long kicking game was great at finding the turf.
