Anyone watch the Eels NYC game on Sat. I liked what I saw from this kid, returns the ball with purpose has great speed, backs himself and can sniff out chances. I believe he will be pushing for first grade spot early next year. Maybe even push Cov out.

I have watched Kelly alot when I have watched Parra NYC play, that was the first time I really concentrated on Gardiner and was impressed.

AK was kept quiet by the bulldogs deference and noone really played well in that game except their Hooker Mitchell? and Gardiner. But you could still see the AK brilliance in that game he can spot a gap and he plays what is inf ront of him. I was a bit worried when he got up punching after dropping the ball, Im sure if someone at the club takes him under the wing he will get sorted with his attitude problem.. Im looking at you Barret! He did idolise Barret as a child.

Apart from their football (which will develop) both were at an ARL Kids 2 Kangroos Clinic in the western suburbs I attended. Both did a fanastic job with the kids and seemed level head, good guys working hard to give the kids a great experience.

Did Gardner play wing or fullback in that game?

I'm thinking he may push Stapleton in to the centres.

Fullback.

Who moves over for Stapo to come in to the centers?
Cov is the weak link in our back line next year, He doesn't have the speed to finish he is a liability in attack. We can't just kick to the guy all day and hope.

i think gardner will start season in nsw cup or perhaps toyota cup if still eligible and have to earn his spot in first grade like our other young players did, i don,t think stuart resigned covell to play nsw cup.

No-one necessarily at the start of the season, but if you consider Gardner the 6th outside back available you can cover a heap of combinations by bringing him in when we get the first injury.

Also - there is no "I" in Gardner, and yes - he is a goalkicker.

I know it is early days, but does anyone have any feedback of Nathan Gardner in the lower grades after the first two games?

I would hope to see him given a taste of first grade this year to see how he goes.

Has been solid at the back from the game I saw on Fox against the Warriors. Had a great return on one of the kicks which he ran back to about 40 from the line. Hasn't made any bad mistakes just needs some more time to develop into a NRL quality player. Will be a better player than Stapo IMO, a lot tougher.

If they give Gardner time to develop in the lower grades he will be our fullback in 2 years with ease. I love the guy.

In 2 years time this could be our backline

1. Gardner
2. Gordan/TT
3. Fergo
4. Wright
5. Stapo

IMO, I love it! Given Fergo can develop in to a centre otherwise we hold on to Collis and Fergo is on the wing.

Don't forget Stu Mills, I expect him to be in the mix as well. And I'll be shocked (and disappointed) if we don't pick up a reasonably high profile/experienced winger at the end of this season.

Hope he grows a bit. Still very small but plenty of pace and seems gutsy on his kick returns.

Could be true. I really rate Stapo but he hasnt been able to maintain the form he showed in even his first 4 weeks. Since then the opposition has been able to keep him out of games and while I have made that excuse for him, really the quality fullbacks can handle that. He is young though obviously.
