It's hard to really say who is overated when i have seen for myself the amount of hours that go into preparing for games, training etc.
But if i am pressed for a current player then i have to say Trent Barrett.
Does his job but i have never seen what all the hype was about.

Well i have been posting on here for awhile so i think the majority of forum members know i'm not here to cause trouble.
As a RL fan i have always tried to support the Sharks & i do have a lot of time for them as a RL team, district, club etc.
Top 8 for sure in 2010.
However if they disagree with my comments regarding Trent Barrett then no doubt i'll hear about it for sure.

brent kite, brett white, nate miles & willie mason - biggest nuffies going around a footy park

Good call, those were the first names that came into my head as well. Also I agree with those who mentioned Glenn Stewart, there are plenty of more worthy backrow candidates for rep selection in my opinion.

I like barrett, but coogee isnt the first person ive heard say he is overated. He hasnt exactly won a comp has he, but then again he is a dally m medalist and nsw champion, sounds like a good cv to me.

hitman124, i clearly remember the 1999 GF when the big names from St George Illawarra were left short when the going got tough.
As a team player he shows some value if the team is going well but as an individual he leaves a fair bit to be desired & goes missing when that little bit extra is required to win a game.
Last year along with Luke Douglas & Paul Gallen i thought Scott Porter was the main reason the Sharks turned their season around.
I expect more from blokes like Barrett & Toupou but that's just my opinion.

Luke Stuart comes to mind straight away.

I thought Tupou was great for us last season and Barrett's season was disrupted by injury - with both of them on deck this year hopefully we can give the finals a real shake.

One of the most underrated backrowers in the comp for many seasons now, and another "one that got away" - he must be getting on a bit now though hey Coogee?

Winning a comp does not make you a champion just as Et and Miller

I am gonna throw a name out there that I haven't heard yet... Steve Simpson. I have never been a fan and dating back a few years when he was gettin selections over back rowers such as Gallen, Bird and Watmough, I was left scratching my head. I am sure some people will disagree.

Megashark, as i said mate just my opinion but if either player proves me wrong or gives me reason to change my opinion then i'm happy to accept that.
As i have said countless times i want the Sharks to have a good year if only for my wallets sake.

Yes mate he is getting on but what a loyal servant he has been to the Bunnies.
Deserves to go out with a premiership & nothing less.

yeah mate your right, but Baz plays a more central directional role yeah? Where if he was totally dominant then you could expect he would have won a competition? Its not really the same for a centre and a backrower.

That bogan dwarf from Penrith SUMMUT!!!

Couldn't agree more. Last season Penrith were playing Souths on a TV game. A bloke who works for me was going to spank a fortune on Penrith to do them easily. I told him to back the Bunnies just because of Sammut's (in)ability at fullback.

Needless to say Sammut had an absolute shocker and was dragged off. The goose needs to learn he doesn't need to attack every ball kicked down to him. His knock on rate in that game alone was probably more than most teams in an entire game.

Terrible, terrible player

Yeah I'll agree with that one. I like the bloke as a player and he's a good Clubman, but its been a very long time since he's been the best 2nd rower on the field.

I would say for this year so far it would be between Burgess and Mason with Mason the front runner.

Burgess hasn't even hit the field yet besides a try in a trial and that was bloody soft as the manly players were standing around watching him.
I am looking forward to seeing Burgess play for South's I hope he lives up to expectations and hype but Souths seem to start every year with something like this lol the Book of what ever etc etc etc will be interesting that's for sure.

Willy, after what I saw tonight mate, I am calling my bookie first thing in the morning and PLUNGING on Burgess for the Daly M Medal. UNBELIEVABLE!

Out of tonight's game I would say Jennings and Lockyer, closely followed by Watmough were the most over rated players out there. Jennings needs to be placed in every whole with a friggin' zimmer frame to do anything! Unless he gets very early ball he is not much chop in my book. Watmough is just thick, and Lockyer looks like an elderly tranny without the make up back stage at the Priscilla stage show. Time to retire mate

Jesus Christ, lets just add Joey Johns and King Wally to the list... oh, wait

What is this? A "best players in the comp" thread?
For what its worth- Kev Kingston's incredibly overrated by the Tele atm and Brett White hasn't deserved a single rep jumper.

ftr- i'm dead set keen for us to make a play for Josh Perry in 2011- so when doug/snow get injured/play in rep we have another aggressive, experienced, high quality front rower that would address the only hole in our pack- lack of depth up front.

lol go ahead and do so but be ready to lose your money lol were you having a jerk with the commentators, From what I saw he looks like a good player but Dally M material your kidding aren't you he had a couple of hit ups and got good meters just like most capable props in the league also a couple of good hits but once again I have seen just as good in the NRL will he get better well that remains to be seen and for Souths sake I hope so.

The refs let the game flow on sat night I saw three things he would have been penalised for in a normal NRL match and two would have been referred last year that's for sure so it will remain to be seen if he can keep the crap out of the game as well.

I think up in your face defence will cause him issues FFS Bird was doing it getting up on him quickly and shutting him down so I think most teams will do the same.

I think we have better Props etc in the NRL and he has a long way to go as he is only young but so was willy mason lol give him a couple of years under Lang then he could become real special but will he hang around that long?

What I was mainly hitting on was the hype around Souths we see it year after year and I am aware of a number of Souths supporters that hate it and it always ends badly for them.

Oh and one last thing what about the play of the ball that burgess ****ed up to nearly cost the NRL all stars the game lol yep Sharks3 put your money on him .
