Ive heard that 99% of league players and staff refuse to talk to D Weidler anymore mainly cause of all the **** that he goes on about. Hopefully the other 1% watched the program last night and completely bar him from all NRL functions and not let him have anything to do with any clubs!.[/QUOTE said:
I wonder how hard it would be to request a blanket ban of any Danny Weidler interviews by the Sharks. Surely it is evident that he not only was searching for the next big exclusive but also showed total disregard for the club and any troubles they may be facing. To mention that Sharks insiders are distancing themselves from ET is nothing short of false accusations and inuendo. Maybe we should put out social media pages showing what a total douche bag this guy really is. Hopefully then players and club officials from other nrl clubs will think twice about interviews conducted by this grub.

The info i posted was from my brother-in-law at Panthers, they have put a ban on all staff and players talking to DW. From what i understand, its accross the board from all clubs, I think the Roosters started it and everyone has follows suit.. ABOUT TIME!!

As far as I am concerned, the story is complete bull**** until we get ET's side of the story.

Danny Weidler is a ****wit and soon as I saw he was all over it, I thought the whole story was bull****.

Suddenly the media isn't gospel?

Some funny comments on here, I’ve enjoyed the read.

For mine, ET is one legend sportsman. I do feel bad for Mellor though, suppose he got what he wanted in the end, payback!

This whole beat up is at Danny Weedler’s instigation as he wanted to ‘break’ the exclusive.

Does appear ACA are getting desperate for stories, suppose there’s only so many times you can run, speed camera, angry neighbours stories and of course the jewel in the crown – Woolies vs Coles.

Don't forget illegal immigrant and dole/welfare bludging stories.

It appears to me that ACA/Today Tonight/The Daily Telegraph all appeal to the bogans of the nation who do not see themselves as such, therefore they like to sit on their moral high-horse and look down their noses at others in society, just to make themselves feel better about their own lives.

All of these 'media' outlets make me sick. I love watching Media Watch on ABC to see what load of crap these programs/newspapers have come up with lately. I can't believe that anyone would be fooled into thinking they were actually receiving any form of news or current affairs when tuning into or reading this tripe.

I agree with your sentiment but I don't think they have a moral high horse to be able to look down at anyone. It is commercialised, gutter journalism. It is NOT real journalism, they run story's on such a frequent rotation it's laughable, how anyone can put themselves through studying journalism at uni and then wasting their career at ACA or TT is beyond me. Steve Kneen can call me a lefty all he wants but the only decent journalism comes out of ABC and SBS (on free to air anyway..). 4 corners or Australian story are brilliant and REAL current affair shows. Also, 60 minutes is just an extended version of ACA, not what it was 25 years ago.

I saw something more disgusting on their show last week, they did a report on shoplifting in what was clearly a dis-advantaged and low socio-economic area. They made these people who were stealing necessities like deodorants, bread, tea, milk, baby food feel like complete criminals. True what they were doing is illegal, but not worthy of a national broadcast and especially not without explaining the reasons why they were doing what they were doing. Rather, they prefered to follow the tough guy public hero under cover security guard who took shoplifters into the back room and made them cry. ACA (and commercial media largely) are morally and ethically bust.

Are four corners really any better? It's the same gutter journalism aimed at a higher IQ. It's still very sensationalised.

Good journalism is dispassionate reporting of facts.

They are largely ethically sound. Remember, EVERY report is going to have some level of perceived bias because you do need to, in a way, take a side of the story for the purpose of the report. 4 corners are largely ethically and morally sound. It is targeted at a higher IQ because it is actually professional journalism.

Do you think that about their report on the Sharks 'gang bang' affair?

Yes, as a sharks fan it was obviously disappointing. As a person and a citizen it was alarming and concerning. The allegations were of a potential illegal act and it warranted a report. In this instance however I would have liked to have heard more from the other sides point of view. It is still leaps and bounds above any journalism channel 9 has conducted in recent years.

I disagree. It was thoroughly trashy and as sensationalised and biased as ACA. It was just slightly more high brow.

But unlike ACA (use the ET story as an example) there was someone actually going on the record over the "gang bang" allegation, they were reporting on her claims. Given, there was room and they could have included some more of the other side of the story.

Yes & no... but that is a discussion to be had over probably too many beers and fine food.

Good journalism transforms the world by speaking truth to power and shines a light into dark corners.

Sure it was more in depth.

I don't think I've ever made this claim before, but that was the one time I could see a clear feminist bias in reporting. I've heard people say that before about other things and it's pissed me off, so I'm somewhat reluctant to bring it up right now as I would risk being written off as the kind of person that freely makes claims like that. But yeah, I'm gunna make that claim.

They didn't spend any time discussing the morality of the situation. They just had a defacto position that the woman was incapable of making a decision as an adult. That base outdated moral nonsense was the basis of the entire affair and that's why I think the whole thing is gutter trash.

What I meant by the 'moral high ground' is that I believe people watching it think they are above those the stories are about. It makes certain people feel better about their lives to watch, laugh and be shocked with those who are supposedly low-brow in our society, as it distracts them from their own pitiful existence.

I'm not sure if it was feminist ideology at play but I think there may have been a hint of a subtle underlying perception that footballers were straight meatheads.
