People that truly look traumatised and in shock

Ch 7 "talk into this microphone and tell us what happened"
A neighbour of ours tragically killed her toddler quite a while ago whilst reversing out of the driveway. The commercial media grubs were outside her house for two days trying to talk to her. Disgusting.

I take it this story has gone global (thankfully it's a rare but still massively tragic event in Aus)

Prob some yank thinking yea that wouldn't happen in Merica

In Merica there would be 20 dead from gunshot wounds possibly including police

But who needs a knife that big unless they are a professional hunter or something. If it was a hunting knife you are supposed to have a permit for it but he could have got it anywhere. Maybe just a large kitchen knife? Hard to tell from footage

Not the point I spose, crazy and desperate people will find a way to hurt others with whatever means.
Basically not enough readily available help out there for people struggling - it's a resourcing issue.

Hopefully some good can come out of this tragedy in shining a spotlight on mental health funding and forcing change.
I do feel that we make it a bit too easy for people in this country to have mental health issues and to get away with things on the back of it.

Our obsession with mental health wellness has become more damaging than helpful.

Resilience, duty, responsibility have gone out the window when we coddle mental illness and elevate it to be a supreme virtue.

I think that's absolutely true at a high level, talking about anxiety affecting people's work/study etc.

But when it comes to serious conditions, and people suffering from manic episodes it's a completely different situation.

The sector is severely overworked, under paid, under staffed and under appreciated.

And simultaneously difficult to access and afford for those who need it.

@Blue_Eyes84 I just wanted to see how you are mate - a few weeks ago you were in a bad situation with a share home and people you were living with were taking your stuff.

Are you OK now? Did you find a new place or did you sort things out with them?
Hey, mate. I'm currently living with my Mum. My Dad recently passed and I'm helping her out at her place. It's been a breath of fresh air, to be honest. I do have to go back, unfortunately. I've been trying to find another place but no luck as of yet.

OK mate. I am sorry to hear about your Dad. I hope you and your Mum will be OK. I will be praying that you can find a better place to live.

Sorry im a bit late on this, but, ffs the guy stabbed a 9 month old baby, if that isn't mental health issues I don't know what is. Noone of sane right mind could do that.

That’s my point. Mental health is associated with anyone killing someone unless it’s self defence. So it shouldn’t be an excuse to get a lighter sentence

That was clearly mental health though. He had been diagnosed and was off his meds at the time from what I understand. No excuses just reality. Black & white

I also worked with a guy, who was recently found guilty and sentenced for murdering his ex girlfriend. Sick ****er had her in the boot of his car while he drove thru MacDonald's and went to a job agency for a few hours in hurstville. Far as I know he didn't claim any mental health issues and what he did claim was quickly shut down by the magistrate

I also had 2 acquaintances murder a bloke, with a cricket bat, in the flats opposite Sutherland police station, go get a cheeseburger at Kirrawee maccas, brag to someone there that Don Bradman would have been proud of him then come back and murder his girlfriend pre mediated because she was a witness. Under the influence of ice and alcohol. One of them was a diagnosed schizophrenic the other claimed no mental health isssues. I don't think they went lightly on the schizophrenic as far as I know he is locked up in a psychiatric ward indefinitely, whereas Jerome only 21 at the time got 47 years, I think 38 on the bottom non parole

So no, in my experience not every one who kills someone is associated with mental health issues and even if they are, are not given a lighter sentence. I don't agree with that at all

Those are ****ed up stories man. Firstly, apologies that you have met these people.

Regarding the bold part I disagree with you, it’s actually a fact.

They absolutely are given a lighter sentence if successful in their claim, which is why you see it getting used with such regularity.

Take this case as an example (one of many)
