Went and saw my knee specialist yesterday (tore ACL August last year). Went in with the intent to book in surgery. Specialist tested my knee etc and said it feels pretty good and recommended I not get surgery.

Suggested I ramp up fitness and strength training for ~8 weeks and try have a go at playing soccer.

Feel a bit confused - but he was pretty adamant that I not get surgery.

Wow!
Has does that work?
Was is a full rupture or partial tear?

Happened to me too. ACL left knee, avoided surgery and nearly 30 years later still good to go.
On the other hand, 15 years later I did my right knee (another ACL) and had to go under the knife.

I feel for everyone on here after reading last few pages, anyway, I never thought I'd share with anyone but eventually I've decided to, I've always grown up with Autism & some eplilepsy, pleased they are only general absence seizures. I'm pleased I've got a lot of mates & family to help me through though.

Great that you have a lot of support and friends around.
Makes things easier and happy in general.

Full tear for me. Non-surgical route is an option, though requiring other muscles around the knee to take the load to support it. I don't believe he was necessarily suggesting it's healed or anything (though there are some instances that it can). Was surprised he pretty much strongly recommended not getting surgery and giving sports a go again.

Did you play sports after the first one?

👍
my son ruptured his ACL in November (full ruptured) and the non surgical option wasn’t even considered by the specialists here.
He basically said if he wanted to play sport, he would need surgery (so that’s what we did).
its great that you are progressing so nicely without surgery and that your specialist has suggested giving sport a go again.
impressed!

That is really amazing! It's always good to avoid surgery though.

I did play again although I was really tentative at first. A lot of straight line running and no fancy step for a while  until I decided '**** it' and started trusting my knee (and the doctors).
