Just saw a post on my FB page from a fellow on the Northern Beaches who helps young footballers get apprenticeships.

His project this time is none other than Matty Wright, former Shark. Here's what the post had to say:

Trading up with the NRL- Northern Beaches

Great to catch up with Manly Sea Eagles Matty Wright to talk education/careers.
Matt is keen to pursue a carpentry apprenticeship,Matt is full-time at the Sea Eagles but would love to gain some work experience when not training.
Would there be a carpenter who could mentor Matt?
Matt would be very grateful for any hours of experience,he is very motivated to make sure when the day comes to transition out of the game that it is a smooth transition

So if you live up that way and can offer Matty something, let me know and I'll put you in touch with Glenn Moore the other fellow in the picture.

Good to hear players thinking post footy.

It certainly is mate. Needs to be more education.
It is something the NRL professes to yell to the rooftops but in truth they don't.

We work very closely with many Under 20s and fringe players squads - West Tigers, Bulldogs, Sharks and Roosters and while they all say that the kids must find work while they are contracted, footy comes first when it comes to the crunch. We find it hard to get Host companies interested in footy players becuase of playing and training committments & injuries. And you can't blame them.

But we find footy kids are disciplined, reliable and physically fit to do the work.

The NRL have their head in the sand with so many issues these days and this is just one of them.

We had great success with Mark O'Meley's son Nick who plays with the Roosters. We got him into an Electrical apprenticeship and he killed it. Even though he is contracted to the top squad he is still continuing with the apprenticeship.

Ha ha! Facebook is easy for me to use. It's when you start bringing in Twitter, Instagram and any of those other Social Media platforms that I get confused.

But I'm quite comfortable with FB. Some of my friends actually call me Chadbook since I use it quite often. :)
