Pec injury can be very painful also. Gotta ask though - how did you hurt your man boob?
I like to think it was going to hard on the bench press at the gym. But in reality it was more likely over stretching trying to reach a packet of Tim tams high up in the cupboard. Had to sleep sitting in reclining chair for the first week. Only strained it could only image tearing it.

alot better today. have bagged him all year but he stepped up today and that was a good effort for his 250th, prob still playing through injury as well

still got beaten a few times through the middle with those powerful mobile warriors forwards stepping back inside but those blokes were beating all our middles through the game. his ruck defense, the intention was back dragging blokes down

lets hope he keeps building towards finals, will need him close to his best

Hard not to be bitter when you compare what he's capable of and what he's served up all season.
Yep, Prior being on or off makes a big difference to the team.

Unfortunately he has been off for the most part of 2 years now.

Wish we could apply that to the whole team...

Hard to pay player based on performing well, to many variable to measure and can't have it based on one persons opinion, closest you can get is pay based on wins.
Half the team would have missed out on a quarter of their salary (calling it half guaranteed salary, half wins bonuses) with the record we have.

good way to hard cap yourself though

funny story - many moons ago when i was playing in england - all players at our club got a base contract plus a win bonus

i was a starter but not the best on the squad, we had 2 english internationals, one had played for real madrid - but my base was 15k pounds plus 800 pounds for a win in the league and 500 pounds for a win in the tv cup

we won the league undefeated and won the tv cup - club went bust and liquidated - those contracts were stopped immediately

Yes you definitely need to do the math on it in advance and work out what the maximum possible outlay would be. My example of half being based on wins was a bit exorbitant, but just to keep it simple.

If you crunch the numbers on all base salary then assume most expensive 17 play & win every game then that is maximum possible outlay, so you can promise around way more than that (everyone who has win bonuses but won't play every round), but can't possibly spend more than that.

Otherwise you risk exactly the issue you described.

Imagine say every player gets the minimum salary but to get your 1 million a year you have to be on the field and actually play well. You do your ACL you get paid minimum wage, like your team mates.

Clubs would easily be willing to gamble more on an elite player staying healthy though.

If we offered Johnson 105k + 30k a win he'd be on roughly the same but of course the next club just says 200k + 30k for a win, then the next club says 400k but only 20k per win and so on and so forth.

Unless there was some kind of actual restriction in place by the NRL would never happen, but then players who have an injury or play well in a poor team just get their earnings shat on, so still would never happen.

Goneeeeee off to Leeds

Not official but yes, it looks that way.

Two-time grand final winning front rower Matt Prior has agreed to a three-year contract with Leeds in the Super League, paving the way for Trent Merrin to return to St George Illawarra and Luciano Leilua to join the Wests Tigers.

Thanks for your service, Matty. Was a vital component in our GF year.
