Sad to see him go but I think we were a bit soft in the middle because he far from his best this year. And being a year older it was his time to go.

Sharks coach John Morris confirmed that Prior was in the clubs plans for 2020 and they were disappointed to be losing him.

“We didn’t really want to lose a player of Matt’s ability, character and experience," Morris said to the Sharks website .

"But with the restraints we are operating under due to our salary cap fine, we’ve had to let players go who we would have otherwise liked to keep.

"He will be remembered for playing a huge role in the Sharks first premiership, has been an outstanding representative of this Club, turned into a State of Origin player and was someone who led from the front."
