From what I understand he approached us and we didn't even make an offer.

Deplorable if that's the case.

wtf.. so we talk and offer contracts to best and tighe but not rogers?? thats ridiculous if thats correct!

I thought his asking price was just too high and we pulled our offer.

Either way. I would have loved to see him play a final season with us, even more so with the form he is in. Real shame and a missed opportunity imo but life will go on.

He would be worth 300k for one year in my opinion.

He is a great player that can grab a game by the balls, and would be our best back.

People will laugh at this but we reportedly paid 300k for Smith. Smith is probably more injury prone and Rogers is a great 5/8 and great centre.

Sad to see Matty leave the NRL. He was a great player and will always have a special place in the hearts of all Sharks supporters. I wish him all the best in his life after football. Go the Rat!

I read that the titans signed him for 100 thousand dollars in his first year, could this be true?

At the time he'd had some injuries and seemed kinda washed up as well. They've been pretty lucky with him to be honest. He also really wanted to settle on the Gold Coast, so he would have accepted less from them than anyone else.

Hopefully we'll get a similar outcome with Best.:glasses-cool:

i think that is correct, as he walked away from rugby, but the tits were in cap pressure, im certain he didnt sign for his market value

Actually I just remembered he came to the Titans a year earlier than he was supposed to, so it is likely that he was meant to be contracted from 2008 onwards at his full market rate (which would have been 300k or more given he was part of the Titans strategy), but played for less in his first year due to cap pressure or whatever.

Do you reckon he seemed washed up ??? No way Sharks and Bulldogs went hard after him at the time

he has been great for them -very true

Yes he did and still does want to remain settled on the Goldy as I said earlier he is close mates with alot of pro surfers and he surfs with them daily - has a great lifestyle plus a lot of Chloe's work is based from there too

Not quite sure Besty is in the same league as matt - but I hope so too SR

ARU gives Mat blessing and praise
AAP
September 13, 2006

THE Australian Rugby Union has described dual international Mat Rogers' return to rugby league as a personal and lifestyle choice and today praised him for not attempting an inter-code bidding war.

Rogers told Wallabies coach John Connolly and ARU chief executive Gary Flowers of his decision to accept a deal with new NRL club Gold Coast from 2008 before last night's John Eales Medal awards dinner in Sydney.

It appears to suit everyone.

Rogers will still get to play at next year's Rugby World Cup in France where he is an important player in the Wallabies' plans to reclaim the crown.

But he'll then be 31, and after several injury-hampered seasons, would probably struggle to command the reported $650,000 a year he's been earning as the Wallabies begin a fresh cycle toward the 2011 World Cup.

He will be paid an estimated $300,000 a year at the Gold Coast – less than half his $650,000-a-season rugby union salary.

Why I'm back

It is understood Rogers will receive $300,000 a year from the Titans – a massive drop from the $650,000 he was paid for being a Wallaby.
