Hate these threads. A lot of the above we're decent or better players.

Dykes being in the first team above removes all credibility. Even first player mentioned, Sammut, kept Peachey out of first grade for quite a long time from memory (based on both form and injuries). Isemonger was a much better player than given credit for above.

Tim Smith, Blake Ferguson, Ben Pomeroy and Chris Anderson. They are the only people that have had involvement with Cronulla that I dislike.

Pomeroy has tried his hardest, I wouldn't dislike him if our coaches ever had the guts to drop him.

I think TT caused me more angst than any other Sharky. Ricky kept picking the **** as well

Can't believe the OP put Dykes in there

That's a bit harsh on Ben Sammat.

I was no fan, and was shattered when Peach was out for the 95 season. But he went OK at the back.

As for that semi in 95 - we did blow 2 12 point leads in that game (and a sizable on the week before against Manly).

To pin the loss on Sammat's field goal attempt - which was from 40 metres out - is a bit unfair.

Well, I did say the reasons for them not being one of your least favourite players could be irrational...the missed field goal for Sammut is a prime example. But I don't recall it being from 40 metres out like you say, more like 25 or 30.

We only blew one 12-point lead in that match by the way and it was a 14-point lead the week before against Manly.

Have a closer read at the title for the thread.

It says Least Favourite not worst ever.

I'm allowed to dislike Dykes, I thought he was erratic and never reached his full potential as a player because of his poor decision-making skills. As I said in my original post, he was a very talented player, but he just happened to be one of my least favourites from that era.

I don't remember exactly how far out it was exactly - but its wasn't a sitter. Didn't miss by much either. This was the days before the video ref - I reckon they would of checked these days.

We led 12-0 in the first half and 18-6 in the second half.

It should never have come down to a Sammat's field attempt. We should of nailed those ****s before then.

Actually it was the great ET who made a mistake that led to Newcastle getting to 18 all.

Sort of Agree with Dykesy being in there, dodgy defender, hit and miss in attack.Didn't always deserve some of the crap he used to cop from the crowd but.Favourite moment- last second matchwinner against Warriors in the wet i think..

When Dykes was on song his skill level was freakish. He often went for small percentage plays though eg 2 to 3 man overlap close to the line and he'd go for a pinpoint cross-field chip to the winger rather than putting it through the hands. Great for highlights reels when it worked but low percentage just the same.

I loved the Dykester but I have to admit laughing at my Parramatta mate when they payed massive overs for him.

I don't remember ever hearing what he signed on for over there tbh.

I knew it was a lot, not sure how accurate this was but it sounds close to what I thought it might have been, big bucks in 2001

According to a report in the Daily Telegraph, Cronulla Sharks five-eighth Adam Dykes has agreed to a 4 year deal with The Parramatta Eels worth a reported $1,100,000.

While Dykes is a very good player and could step up another level at the Eels. The signing of Dykes must put doubt in the Eels ability to keep young halfback P.J Marsh whose contract expires at the end of the year.

Marsh has attracted interest from a couple of clubs with Penrith looking the front runners should the Eels be unable to come to terms with the young halfback.

Dykes will face a shift to halfback if the Eels lose the services of Marsh with Michael Buettner playing the .

Should the Eels keep Marsh then Parramatta will have a good young halves combination with 24 year old Dykes at five-eighth and 21 year old Marsh at halfback, Michael Buettner could then be used from the bench.
