Here's an interesting story on Lancen Joudo which appeared on the club website. He looks to be a promising talent who can play in a variety of positions, and is shaping up as great signing for us.

CUA Stadium became a second home for the 19-year-old who played 13 years in Penrith, but now Joudo is expecting fireworks at the ground where he has so many fond memories.

This will be his first trip back to the foot of the mountains since moving to the Shire in 2008.

"It will bring back a lot of great memories playing out there," Joudo said.

"I spent a lot of time playing there in junior rep finals, it is home for me, my parents and family all still live out there, so it will be good to go back there and visit.

"I had a lot of good years out there with Penrith, obviously they are very strong, and while I was there we won Harold Matthews and SG Ball, so it definitely helped my footy a fair bit."

Joudo has been in great form for the Sharks after leaving the Panthers last year and is expecting a tough encounter when he faces his ex-teammates, some of who he played alongside for the best part of a decade.

"I’m really good mates with a lot of the boys," he said.

"I played with them in Harold Matthews, SG Ball and Flegg, so I played a lot of years down their in my junior days, it should be interesting.

"Guys like William Isa and Masada Iosefa, I’ve either played with or against the majority of their side in the junior leagues, I know them really well.

"We used to hang out a fair bit, we used to see each other five days a week at school and then train together for footy, so it would be nice to get one over them, be good to have those bragging rights."

The Sharks have struggled for consistency this year and are in 14th place, five points adrift of the top 8.

They head to CUA Stadium knowing they need to string some victories together if they are any chance of making the finals, but it is a tough assignment – the Panthers are sitting in second place, just two points behind the Dragons.

"I talk to the boys all the time, so I will probably send a sneaky message to one or two of them to see how they are going," he said.

"It is always in the back of your mind playing against them, it is your old club, but if you take it any differently that is when nerves can creep in and that’s when mistakes happen.

"Panthers at home are going to be very tough, because they are playing well."

Joudo who leads his team in linebreaks, represented Australia when he was just 15, and has played in representative teams alongside Mitchell Pearce and Chris Lawrence.

He says seeing them succeed in the NRL motivates him to take his game to the next level.

"It definitely gives you confidence to see them playing well," he said.

"I played with those guys, so it makes you think that you might be good enough for the NRL.

"The Toyota Cup has been really good, the level of competition is really high and you can see by the scores how close it is.

"I’ll keep playing hard and hopefully my chance will come."

The Sharks v Panthers Toyota Cup game kicks-off at 11:45am and will be broadcast live on FoxSports from 11.30am.

Sadly I can't imagine Joudo getting much of a run in firsts, at least not untill 2012... There's just too many people in front of him.

Penrith Panthers and St Clair Comets junior Lancen Joudo joined the Cronulla Sharks in 2008 to help prosper his promising career and was one of the rising stars in the inaugural 2008 NYC competition.

The 19-year-old played in all 24 matches for the Sharks this season where he scored three tries and captained the Sharks in several matches. Joudo played 17 of his 24 matches in the hooker position and also played five-eighth and lock plus one game off the interchange bench.

Joudo caught up with Rleague.com for an exclusive interview and was asked the following questions below. Click on the YouTube screen to listen to Joudo's answers.

Lancen, how did you enjoy the NYC experience of playing on the major grounds and before NRL matches?

You played the majority of your games at hooker, but also played lock and five-eighth. What position do you enjoy the most and what position is best for your future?

Do you see your utility value being a hindarance or an advantage in future years?

You came across to Cronulla this season and found yourself in the captaincy role. How did you enjoy that responsibility?

Where did it all start for Lancen Joudo in the Juniors and what club did you play for?

You captained the Panthers to Harold Matthews success in 2005. How high do you rate that on your favourite moments thus far?

You played in the Harold Matthews and SG Ball sides for Penrith and been in the Panthers system for a few years. How did the move to Cronulla come about?

What areas of your game do you think you need to work harder on to make the next step from NYC to NRL level?

How much of an influence has Ricky Stuart been on you at Cronulla and what advice has he given you?

Who have been the biggest influences on your career so far?

What are your goals for the 2009 season?

When does your contract at Cronulla expire?

Who were your favourite players when growing up?

Rleague.com thanks Lancen Joudo for the interview and wishes him all the best for the 2009 season and into the future.
