The U.S. Anti-Doping Agency said Thursday night it will strip Lance Armstrong of his unprecedented seven Tour de France titles after he declared he was finished fighting the drug charges that threaten his legacy as one of the greatest cyclists of all time.

Travis Tygart, USADA's chief executive, said Armstrong would also be hit with a lifetime ban on Friday.

Still to be heard from was the sport's governing body, the International Cycling Union, which had backed Armstrong's legal challenge to USADA's authority.

Armstrong, who retired last year, declined to enter USADA's arbitration process - his last option - because he said he was weary of fighting accusations that have dogged him for years. He has consistently pointed to the hundreds of drug tests that he has passed as proof of his innocence during his extraordinary run of Tour titles stretchingfrom1999-2005.

"There comes a point in every man's life when he has to say, "Enough is enough." For me, that time is now," Armstrong said in a statement sent to The Associated Press. He called the USADA investigation an "unconstitutional witch hunt."

They can't strip him of the 7 tour of France titles, they don't have the power to do so.
The International Cycling Union could, if they have proof of doping.

The International Cycling Union could, if they have proof of doping.

But they do have power to strip him of his only testicle.

I think that is the only option here.

Didn't he give them up? Because he was sick of the "allegations".
Sounds very fishy. I deff wouldn't give something up if I had earned it squarely.

If you had cheated on a partner you wouldn't admit to it because she/he kept saying you did.

He has fought tooth and nail. It has got him no where. I for one generally feel sorry for the lad.

why? because hes not european, and everyone knows only europeans can win the tour de france,

in his biography he mentioned how all these alligations affected his marriage and friendships, hes probably sick of it all,

thats why he said enough is enough, he knows he earnt those tours, and now hes retired hes not willing to let it runin his life,

hes an inspirational dude

But it's the US anti doping agency that is going after him, not the Europeans.

I really can't understand why he wouldn't fight it if he was innocent. He's put in all that effort and all that training, then he's just happy to have it stripped away.

It's like being accused of assaulting someone and then just refusing to defend yourself in court.

It doesn't make sense after all the effort he has (supposedly) put into obtaining the victories.

sorry didnt word it properly should have explained better, all these doping alligations started in europe, and then it snowballed and now the us anti doping are after him

in his biography it explains the huge amount of strain it put on his marriage and homelife, fighting these numerous allegations, he knows hes won those tour de frances, and im sure after years of persecution hes sick of the toll it takes on him and his family,

after all is your tour de france more important than your family, i dont think so

He's a cheat.

Exactly what I was going to post Iron. Its as simple as that. The people that have come and testified against him... they're the who's who of American cycling. He dunnit.

Not contesting the charges is his way of illegitimizing them. Its weak.

He doesn't deserve sympathy. He's peddled lies to millions and made millions in return. He deserves what he gets.
