Covell is better then simmo, misi, goodwin, pom

take out covell, our backline is not very experienced

you can rely on covell to be a leader unlike simmo or taulapapa

who would you replace him with, who would be the goalkicker (stapo needs alot of work on it)

not flashy but does the job

2008 NRL top points scorer

Cov, Top point scorer for 2008, but your right, he cant score tries, nup never

Not to state the obvious, but there is a difference between being top try scorer and top point scorer!

I am sorry if I have brushed a soft spot buddy and you have major man love for the cov.

BUT, he is the 26th placed winger in regards to the total of tries scored this year. Last year he had ONE good year, the 2 years prior to that he was average coming in at 16th and 13th in regards to try tally for wingers, considering that they always bomb to his' side these stats are not spectacular by any means.

I have no problems with the Cov I do reckon the dude is a champ, and believe Junior Tia Kalifi should be bought for centre or winger, so please stop spamming the thread. If you want to talk about the cov. there will be a tread on HIM elsewhere

again JTK is going to the dogs

of course he is going to be down the list for try scorers this year, LOOK at the year we have had, he isnt the only one NOT scoring tries

2 years before last we were rubbish, as we have been since chris anderson raped our club

Bulldogs add Panther to young-gun arsenal

The Bulldogs are set to extend the contract of their bargain-basement buy of the year, Bryson Goodwin, after yesterday announcing the signing of a player they believe can follow in the winger's footsteps - Penrith's Junior Tia Kilifi.

Goodwin, currently this season's equal-top tryscorer, is believed to have secured an upgrade to his current deal and an extension that will keep him in blue and white until at least the end of 2011.

And the signing of the Panthers rookie Tia Kilifi will bolster the Dogs' roster in the outside backs. The 21-year-old has played only a handful of games for the Panthers this season but burst into first grade with a late try to seal a win against Parramatta in round 17.

Bulldogs officials have been lauded for their decision to sign Goodwin this year, a move vindicated by the previously unheralded 23-year-old becoming one of the most potent wingers in the NRL.

And officials at the club, currently in second place on the NRL ladder, hope there will be similarities in their decision to sign Tia Kilifi.

We are truly stuffed for next year !!!!!!

We should have heaps in the salary cap and ricky is not buying anyone, does he not see that the team we are going to field next comp is not HEAPS different than the team that has been taking the field for most of this comp.

Letting players like, Ross, JTK, Tyrell, Scott, Kearney sign elsewhere seems a bit of a joke. Instead we buy morris and Cuthbo. I appreciate he cant necessarily buy everyone lsted above, BUT, even a few of them. There is no reason for letting Ross go at that price!

Don't know if he has a number of aces up his' sleeve BUT he would want to or we are up for a worse year next season.

Just because we have space left under the cap doesn’t mean we have that much money to spend.

The bulk of our squad are young and should get better next year. We have a number of talented young players which will develop further over the offseason.

We have been competitive in most of our games this year.

I don’t know how many times over the past 10 years or so, a team has performed well above their expectations.

Penrith 03
Wests 05
Sharks 08
St George 09

None of these teams were expected to make the top 8, let alone be genuine title contenders.

It’s waaaay to early to write us off for next year. 12 months is a long long time in Rugby League.

Dont have the time to expand full now, BUT, surely with the amount of money coming off contract for us, Ross, Kearney, Simmo, Seymour, CUx2, Hughes, Maitua, Anderson, and like 5 others at least. We should have heaps left over, thinking we have bought "cheapish" players except for Aiton. Morris, Wright & Cuthbo would of all been cheap. Yes we upgraded some juniors but no way should we be close to the cap???? Should we?, I have done the maths before and thought we should DEFINATELY have HEAPS left???

Sorry, I didnt elaborate on what I was trying to say about the Cap.

The Cap may be $4mil but the club might not have that much money available to spend. We are obviously not very well off financially. We may only be able to afford $3mil worth of players at the moment..

If thats what you have been thinking lately why kick up such a stir saying we are stuffed next year and we have so much money under the cap?

Not to state the obvious, but there is a difference between being top try scorer and top point scorer!

Also, you cant be top scorer without scroing tries, I never said he was the top try scorer but he still had to score a hell of alot to get the top spot.

This has been a "thought" (something that I have pondered), not something I am sure about at all

What I am saying is that I think we are going to be in all sorts with the team for next year now we have let Kearney and Ross sign elsewhere and havent signed anyone else.

IF the above is not the case (Ricky doesnt have the finances approved to him to fill the cap) I think Ricky has definately made a mistake as is means.

1) He has filled our salary cap quota with our roster (meaning he has overpaid on his' new recruits and player upgrades MASSIVELY)
OR
2) He has decided that Ross wasnt worth a cheap contract, and has let players like JTK, Tyrell, Kearney & Matt Scott go unsigned (he should of been able to purchase some of these guys at least and also nothing was written in the media indicating we were even chasing them!)

When Zappia was here he was saying a decision we had to make was to spend big now on average talent or save for next year when the big talent is on the market. By the looks of it we may be doing the latter

this year has been the year from hell with off field dramas, player sackings, reni,s drug problem, and injuries. so if we have a drama free year and some luck with injuries we should do better next year
