Spamming this one to a few threads.

Some really good stuff at the 25 minute mark with the mental health coach from the Scottish RU team.

That flows in to a soccer guy talking about development.

A bit of a kerfuffle yesterday.

My son played a finals game yesterday. We stuck around to watch the game after.

Was 12-all at full time. They had a league official there who confirmed it was 5 mins each way, and then golden point if the game was still tied. One team scored a try 3 mins into the first extra time. Ref blew full time and walked off. The league official went and spoke to him but he just kept walking. Game over.

I've seen plenty of f*ck ups but This was a first even for me.

I didn't have a horse in the race, but there were plenty of pissed off fans/players/coaches/officials.

*

Also - my son won his game. Was 2v3 in a top 5 system so they get a crack at #1 next week. :D

Might put up some young Burgo highlights later. Take note Mooney.

Unfortunately there’s a chance the referee may have had a connection to the winning team, especially if they were young.

When I played years ago, we were in the first round of the finals (we came second so it wasn’t an elimination) but found out 10 minutes into the game that the referee’s little brother played for the opposition. The referee was calling all the players by their nicknames and there were some VERY questionable calls.

Was nearly 20 years ago but still fuming about it hahaha

I lost my under 16s grand final because we had a player get injured and got penalised for time wasting 20m out right in front of the post. He had to be carried off and they took the 2 to win it.

Later found out the ref went to school with half the other team and was putting up photos with them after the game.

It bloody sucks, but the problem is that they’re so desperate for junior refs that they can’t be picky about potential bias or else they won’t have the man power to officiate the games.

Had a mate transition to referee after he was done playing and stopped after a few years due to the constant abuse he copped.

Not sure if there was anything dodgy going on. Possibly just a ref who wasn't across the rules.

A separate (positive) refereeing story from the same day...

Harrison Western refereed my son's game yesterday. He's the young kid who was up on stage at the GF last year presenting the medals to the refs.

Harry doesn't have any connection to my son's team but I know him. He lives around the corner, worked at our local IGA and his dad was a part of the club I coached at. Was talking to his dad yesterday and he said that game was Harry's 100th for the year, and he still has carnivals to do once the BRL season is done. Will possibly hit 150 That's a massive effort. He's 16.

My son has had him twice this year. He's probably a top 3 ref I've ever seen in juniors. Very assertive and keeps the riff-raff at bay.

Great effort from the young kid. 👍

So i guess we will be picking his performance apart in about 10 years time….
😉😉

@apezza yet another future OWB

Not a natural halfback (tackles too well, runs too hard and pays at the line instead of standing around pointing lol)

Big name match-up yesterday. My boy and Matt Ballin's son were the opposing #7's. Matt was the LeagueSafe in the yellow shirt.

The game had its fair share of controversy, but was a great contest. Ballin's teams got the chocolates 34-30 in extra time and the battle of he two #7's was a treat to watch. Some really good set-for-set footy, and each of them had plenty of highlight reel moments.

Ballin's team goes into the GF. Our boys have a second chance to get in so hopefully we get to see the same two teams go at it again in a fortnight.
