Put this guy back in the middle and strip him of his ball playing license.

I hear you , but it wasnt his fault our halves went into their shell ... He should never be ball playing like he was, just says alot about our 6 & 7 in that game

I don't care how bad our halves are playing, he should not ball play because even when our halves are bad they are still twice as good as him. He is a good ruck defender and handy skillful forward but when he gets confident he starts with the rubbish passes like he did last night, and what plagued his time at the Eels.

I said about 4 weeks ago he just needs to keep it simple as he is starting to get a bit of the Gal's and thinking he is a half back. Doesn't need to get too clever and start trying to make plays out of thin air, just chime in with some passing/offloads here and there as the opportunity or need arises. Don't need him trying to put on plays every other set. Having said that his ball playing was brilliant last week against Newcastle but that was one game and against a limp defense but credit due he was very good. But in other games we are getting a mixed bag when he does too much of it.

Couldn't be happier for the bloke getting offered a new contract - hard worker and seems genuine good guy

Didn’t see Friday’s game so can’t comment on that. His work early keeping it simple was great, but he also did have some success ball playing on the left edge against Canberra and the dogs. Need to pick his moments I guess.

He'll be terrible for team culture up there.

Good luck to him though, hope he gets a good pay day.

Paulo has now OFFICALLY signed with St Helens for 2019.

Sad to see him go. Bloke came here really as just a depth player and thru sheer hard work and determination earned a spot in the top 17. Can’t recall him ever really having a bad game for us either.

Best of luck in England mate. I also remember hearing that he’s never played a finals game in the NRL, fingers crossed he ticks that off the list before he departs.

Here you go

The 30-year-old has inked a three-year contract at the Totally Wicked Stadium.

Equally adept at second row or loose forward, the Kiwi will bring plenty of experience to Justin Holbrook’s side having played more than 160 appearances in the NRL.

He has also gained eleven caps for Samoa and captained the USA in the 2013 World Cup.

Saints Head Coach Justin Holbrook said: “I’ve watched Joseph for a number of years now and I admire how he plays the game.

“He has a high skill level, with good vision, and will be a good addition to the squad next season.”

Paulo made his NRL debut for Penrith in 2008 against his current club Cronulla.

He played 30 times for the Panthers before moving to Parramatta Eels.

More than 80 appearances later he was snapped up by Cronulla where he played alongside Ben Barba.

This year he has played 18 games for the Sharks.

Joseph said: “The decision to leave the NRL and come over to the UK is one I am really excited about. It was a choice that was made easier too when I knew I was coming over to a great club like St. Helens.

“They have been a successful club for many years and with the culture they have built over time I just wanted to be a part of it.

“The timing felt right with a young family too and it will be great to link up with some old friends there.

“I know Zeb Taia and Ryan Morgan and also played with Ben Barba at the Sharks. I’m close to Kevin Naiqama so it will be good to play alongside those boys.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the Saints fans and showing what I can do.”

Paulo is Saints’ third signing ahead of the 2019 season with Fijian Captain Kevin Naiqama and Joe Bachelor already committing their future to the club.

Hold up, hold up........

Pretty sure he was very keen to stay at Cronulla and Flanno was keen to extend him - so in summary of above article, money, yea pretty much juicy ESL moola!

Best of luck to him over there, have liked his attitude and output here at the Sharks

Woeful game from Joseph - terrible handling, poor tackles. Worst he has played for us

came back into the team and just wasn't switched on

This is a myth. Most players don't leave the NRL for the ESL because of big money offers. In Paulo's case he probably got similar money per year but a longer deal.
- The salary cap in the ESL is just over 1/3 of what it is in the the NRL (it's about $3.5m AUD)
- Each team is only allowed two "marquee" players earning over $300k. For everyone else in the league that is the maximum they can earn.

Probably the biggest factor is the money is MUCH better than players would earn in the Qld or NSW Cup .. so if you are a good player at that level but can't crack NRL it makes sense to head over... or if you are a 30+ fringe NRL player who would rather make the same money but play first grade each week, you might move for that reason.

The tax rates are lower, which helps too.

Really disappointing that Saturday, which was probably Paulo’s last game for us, was easily his worst game in our colours.

Just seemed completely lost out there which is surprising as he’s been Mr Reliable for us.

If he does get another game hopefully he’s switched on.

It's surprising transfer fees are so high, and more poms can't be enticed over here
