Yes well nothing got a hold of me with that add.
I hate to go it alone, but I actually like the ad. Have a look at what it is trying to do and who it is trying to appeal to.
Rugby league is cool amongst your friends
The ad moves between young people in normal places: the country field, to an inner-city park, to a suburban street, to a schoolyard, to a beach.
Rugby league can be enjoyed by kids, it is not only for people who go with their Dad
The people are all young, yet it really doesn't focus on families. Perhaps the marketing of the NRL in the past, desperate to appeal to families, has had a negative impact on the 'coolness' of the game.
Rugby league is fun to watch and play, it is not just about the team
Traditionally, rugby league advertising has put a focus on the fanboy: face paint, jersey, scarf, team hat, flag, arms in the air, shouting. There is none of this in the new ad. This leads back to my first point - it is cool with your friends, not just fanatics
All good points, mtk. I think the main issue for a lot of people is the style of music used to go with the footage. Jessica Mauboy is obviously very talented but I think the song the NRL chose is ordinary to say the least, and that's the thing that tends to stick in your head with these ads.
aparently you can create your own on nrl.com with clips from you team. i never bothered to look at it,
