Hiroti was dreadful in the trial. Just kept dropping off tackles. Hopefully got it out of his system

He should have. He came in with intent and a close fist. Looked way worse than ramien

it's an open palm when he hits him, don't think you can book him for threatening to punch someone but surprised he didn't get a lecture from the refs for running it, they usually hate that. maybe the officials mentioned it to our captain

Two would've been about right. Bad out, at this stage of the season but.

especially after all the training and conditioning work put in during pre-season to now have to sit down for a month and be restricted to training . his match 'form / fitness' gunna be put on hold and has to come back in a later round and kinda start again. some players this is no problem whatsoever for but I feel with Jesse he needs to find some rhythm and consistency week to week and build that confidence back. was finding it last season before he got injured

I think it was more about how hard Ramien swung his arm coming into the tackle. It was reckless and unnecessary, even if he was unlucky it connected with the well worn melon of the Dragons player. Not ideal... We'll miss his strong early set hit ups.

I would suggest the arm was hard coming in cause he wasn't expecting it to contact the blokes melon but I get where you and bort are coming from in terms of recklessness

Hiroti was poor when he was on the wing last season, but I think the one game he played in the centres he was decent. I’m remaining hopeful.

yea there was one game last year in FG where he was decent, the one where he was also putting over some tricky conversions for us. I think he is capable of being serviceable but also capable of being a disaster depending which one of him turns up. Ferris has it all over him as a centre and future prospect but understand there are contract/injury issues at present

Was posted elsewhere I think, but pretty sure I read Ferris is out for a while with a foot injury. Thought he might be in line for a shot?

Ferris is still on a development contract so isn't eligible to play regardless.

I get confused with all of this. How come he was allowed to play against the Broncos last year?

They can play in the back half of the season. I think it used to be round 10. We played brisbane in Rd 12 when debuted.

He was also allowed into our 21 earlier in the year (but didn't play) I think, as we had no healthy backs in top 30.
One suspension isn't enough for that though

Ferris was moved in to the top 30 last year in June.

- He was named in the 21 for round 2 last year under an exemption, but didn't play
- He was named again in the 21 during June and did not require an exemption (dev contracts required exemption before June 30)
- His debut was on 31 July

The June 30 limit has been replaced for 2021 with "dev players are eligible from round 11 without exemption"

Thanks mate, but I'm still confused. Are you saying Ferris is not in our top 30 this year and therefore can't play NRL until after Round 11?

Yes (except I think he could play round 11 inclusive, not just after round 11).
We have space in roster to promote him if we wanted to play him before then though.

bort has is right. Round 11 inclusive.

So for Ferris, he was on a dev contract 2020 pre-season until June, he was upgraded in June just for the remainder of the season 2020 season, and then re-signed for 2021 on a new dev contract.

Got it. Thanks everyone!

So he can't play until round 11 unless we promoted him to the 30 man squad.

Thanks guys. What I was having trouble understanding was that he was upgraded and then went back to the development contract. I couldn't understand why he couldn't stay on a normal contract.

Yeah, quite often happens. Likely dropped back to dev instead of staying top 30 to keep some flexibility around what positions we can sign into top 30 when different needs arise. ie if we lost a forward or two now we'd be talking about potentially running a different dev player than Ferris. Especially with Hunt, Talakai, Johnson all not starting season, questions over Fifi, questions over some others like Paterson & Pele who are new top 30 players need to keep our options open.
I think we can also get away spending a bit less on the cap by having some players in squad currently on min wage then later in year bump one of them up and bring Ferris in on min wage instead, although saving here would be minimal so likely more a bonus than a good reason to hold him out.

Shame we don’t have feki. He played centre once in the under 20’s.

He's injured

DT calling it a coward act and saying brain expert says he should be banned for season. What a load of trash haha

Imagine calling yourself a brain expert but clearly not even having one.
