That line up is proof of what a great job Flanno has done over the past ten years, the only exception being the ASADA situation.

He took over the year after and started to mould a premiership winning team.

Only Gallen is the surviving member of that squad and perhaps he should share some of that credit with Flanno.

As most of us on here know Flanno and Gal have accumulated many enemies over the years and have fought many battles but the fruits of their labour can be seen in that one rank lineup from 2009.

They took a team that was a leading contender for the spoon to a feared premiership contender and an eventual maiden premiership.

The efforts of these two cannot be overlooked.

Looking at our team lists during the Sticky era, there is little doubt the bloke was madder than a ****house rat.

It's crazy to think he is still a first grade coach

True, and the funniest thing is reading some of the articles from that pre-season. A lot of them were talking us up hard, saying that we'd improved the squad from 2018!

Barrett was seen as a big upgrade on Noddy, and going into 2009 Seymour was still seen as a going concern.
Somehow Corey Hughes was seen as smart recruitment.
I think we lost Ross in the first game and the first half of that game too IIRC.

However looking back, 2009 was the year I became the most engaged with the Sharks since being a kid. I got Foxtel because of 2008 and thinking 2009 we had a shot and I didn't want to miss a game. I was so gutted when everyone wanted to kick us out for all the scandals. It really solidified me as a fan. I think it's when I signed up here too.

I ended up really connecting with the underdog spirit and put my hopes in the kids coming through.

In 2008 I wouldn't haven't been able to name everyone in the 17. In 2009 I knew who Atelea Vea was and was pissed that Storm had 'poached' him.

So I have a real soft spot for 2009 in a twisted way.

Yep. Pretty much the same for me MB. In fact, the reason I signed up for this forum was because I was desperate to hear how things were at the club in the dog days of 2009. Living in the UK I just needed to know we were going to be ok.
Got to admit, not much news was good. Far from it. Hanging on tenterhooks until the development was approved and having to watch some pretty awful football. Still here we are. Still here. And a premiership to boot. Seemed a long way away back in 2009.

Matthew Wright is still only 27?!?! He's been playing like he's close to retirement for 10 years.

Yeah that's not great... that side would be lucky to pick up the 2 on a bye week.

With spare money and all our backline departing as we are currently, would anyone sign any of these guys?

Nope, none of them, even if they were at their peak.

I think I’ve posted this on here before - I was at this game and it is the worst on-paper lineup we have ever had. Close to the worst on field performance too.

One of the annoying things in that link is that Ayshford scored a double for the Tiges. He only scored one try in 2 seasons with the Sharks.

Going back to earlier times, this was a pretty miserable line-up too with not many exceptions.

I started going to our games in 1982, every week as it was a Sydney comp excluding Canberra, so I remember that team well.

Definitely a better team than 2009.

Oh man, I know he had some shocking hands on him but I didn't mind him (not saying he was a favourite). I think I like him more than most on here.

At Fullback? It was Hayne I think. The last hit was an awesome game. If it’s the one I remember, we bashed them all night. Same night Wade sent Hoffman home in a body bag.
