ONE-TIME Cronulla halfback Jason Ferris faces surgery tomorrow to repair more than eight fractures in his face after he was attacked at a Glen Innes hotel.
Ferris, 33, who played 96 top-grade games with five clubs, including the Sharks and Manly, was bashed more than a week ago in his home town.
He was left almost unrecognisable after the assault. A Sydney specialist on Friday asked him: "What were you hit with?''
Two men, a 33-year-old from Glen Innes and a 33-year-old from Grafton, have been charged over the attack.
Ferris, who is on medication for depression and seeking help for a gambling addiction (he will face court himself next month on theft charges of which he is unwilling to go into details about or how he will answer the charges) told colleague Barry Toohey the vicious attack was completely unprovoked. I did absolutely nothing to bring it on,'' he said. "I was hit first off from behind in the pub and after I walked out to leave, they were waiting for me. I can't say too much, but it wasn't just fists. There were a few of them. It was a dog act.''
