Obviously he's untested at NYC level, but given the Club's Football Op's budget these days, that's hardly surprising. Does at least have Flegg experience.

He may have already brought one youngster with talent with him- is it any surprise that Jake Watts has found his way to the club after being the NT's star player at the National Champ's? Also good to see he coached the NSW u17s a while back, so he would have some connections there.

Anyone know anything about him?

A quick Google search tells me that he didn't miss the finals during his time coaching the Tigers' Flegg side.

Never heard of the bloke, but the "Recruitment consultant for the Melbourne Storm 2008 & 2009" part in the article has me impressed.

It wasn't like they were recruiting big names though. Sure they are cheating bastards but when it comes to recruitment and development they are the best.

Helps if you've got the room to wave $$$ under the noses of the best young talent though..

Sure, but there are players that weren't wanted at other clubs that they have developed, such as Cameron Smith and Billy Slater. Not bad
recruitment in my books.

Would like to see an interview with this fella on SharksTV for a bit of a getting to know you.

Background in recruitment? Sounds like a money-saving option here, he might double up as recruitment manager.

I agree with both points. I'd certainly love to see an interview with him and get some sort of early insight in to his coaching philosophy and what he plans to bring to the Mighties.

:good: I thought the same thing, seeing as that was Joey Grima's job as well.

Yes good point mate. Joey was doing that job last year so I think James may take over that role this year.

Toyota Cup Season Preview

Fox Sports commentator Matt Russell previews the fourth installment of rugby league's Toyota Cup
By Matt Russell
March 09, 2011 3:29PM

<EDITED>

Welcome aboard

The fresh faces in the Under-20s playing ranks extends to the coaching ranks this season.

There are four newcomers and one who has switched clubs.

<EDITED>

At Cronulla, Joey Grima’s promotion to NRL coach Stuart Flanagan’s assistant allows James Shepherd to take over at Toyota Cup level. He played with North Sydney and the Roosters before coaching roles at Balmain and more recently in the Northern Territory.

Hats off to Shep.

Doing a great job in a tough situation and making some ballsy calls regarding selections. We looked to have a bit of shape in attack on Sunday as well. Something unseen under Sharp.

Great coaching allowing Val Holmes some attack from fullback position yesterday as well; al la RTS/Mini. Hope he stays on as an assistant next year in some capacity.

I think our defensive efforts show he's done something right.

Not sure why we'd be entertaining ideas of The Chinless Wonder coming on as an assistant next year when we got this bloke.
