Fellow Sharks supporters,

I'm now taking my hat off as a Sharks supporter and placing on my Rugby League (NRL) one.

I'm worried sick about our game and the ever present and constant danger of AFL, Soccer, Rugby Union (here and overseas) and the English Super League.

I'm asking this site and league supporters within to help me start a petition to present to the Rugby League governing bodies (ie NRL, ARL, NSWRL, CRL and QRL) to push for all parties to endorse an independent enquiry into the state and running of our great game from grass roots development to professional level. We the fans are the game and we need to make noise now. However pushing for an enquiry is one thing but then we need to implement and endorse the findings.

We could promote the link to the petition and get all league lovers to sign it.

My friends ..... the time has come !!!

If anyone has ideas or supports what I say please private message me or place within this thread.

I'm not going crazy am I? Does anyone else feel this way?

19. killing off sydney clubs will kill the NRL..move manly to the central coast. merge south sydney and roosters..and thats it!

I have heard some of your rants before, but this takes the cake.


9 get rid of Monday nights?? This generates extra revenue to the game and the clubs, without Monday night football the TV deals would be less.
10 Drop food prices? clubs sell the catering rights, if they force a drop in food prices, the club would lose revenue.
11Bring back saturday arvo games???? No one use to go to Saturday arvo games, people have things to do on saturdays eg childrens sport etc, if you have a saturday arvo game you will again lose revenue through gate receipts and TV deals, as no one use to watch saturday avro games, thats why ABC had those rights, until they dropped it and no other network wanted it, so the NRL stopped playing saturday avro games.
14 3rd party deals are already excluded from the salary cap, but these 3rd parties need to have no contact with the Club, through other club sponsorships deals etc, and the clubs cannot guarantee these deals(Like what happened to Gasnier). If you are suggesting getting rid of all 3rd party deals from the salary cap, then you may have suggested getting rid totally of the salary cap, and then the Sharks would be dead within 5 years of that happening.
18 Refine the origin rules to be you play for the state where you were born??? What if there was a guy whose parents were on holidays in Brisbane when his mum was pregnant, she went into early labour and he was born there and only lived there for a week before returning to Sydney, so is he meant to play for QLD? Even through he had spent all his life supporting NSW and growing up wanting to play for them. It should be first junior graded game.
19 Killing off Sydney clubs will kill the NRL? This is a emotivte statement. There are too many teams in Sydney(This is obvious), for the NRL to survive and stop players going to France and England. They need to expand into other markets, like what you suggested Eg Perth, Adelaide this will generate additional revenue through TV deals etc, but the playing talent will not be able to handle expansion, also by reducing the number of teams in Sydney, the clubs left will be able to generate more income(per team) through sponsorships and gate takings, because Sydney is a limited and highly competitive sporting Market. If the NRL was to keep the majority of its teams in Sydney, it will eventually die out, because it will always lose its players to overseas teams, as it will never be able to generate enough income to stop this happening.

The only way to keep the Sydney teams would be for the teams to find private owners(Like the English premier league), and get rid of the salary cap that way we could keep all the players, but like the premier league the team that has the most money will tend to win the comp.

no one likes night footy either, saturday arvo..3pm, most kids sports are usually finished by then, saturday arvo is better then monday arvo, no one bloody turns up for it, unless your canberra, monday night footy is a waste of a time, tell me one person who wants to sit through a whole weekend then spend a day at work before they get to see there team play!

origin, where your born - stiff, if you were born in QLD when your parents are on holiday (well if she is close to birth, travelling isnt really a good idea), one possible rule, you can challenge that and say your parents resided in NSW and were in QLD for a holiday, none of this granny, great granny, dads a kiwi, type sh!t, this prevents - "oh i want to play for QLD because i feel like it". this would see inglis and falou in a NSW jersey, Falou is from Minto NSW ffs.

to many teams in sydney - if you kill off sydney (what keeps league going, without sydney, the NRL dies) clubs, you piss off thousands of fans, you want to know where norths fans are, there watching rugby. for NRL to succeed, it needs sydney, fans who are close to there team, could not bear to support another team (i am one of them).

perth and adelaide have failed before, adelaide have NFI what league is..there is no point, perth need titans type ceo to make it successful, they need a big junior base and the funds and of course fans, to make it succeed as both are strong AFL heartlands, we need to be ready to hit those 2 areas hard enough to stay..but first we have to get AFL out of blacktown before we even think about expansion, cause AFL dont care who they affect out my way and rugby league is being hit hard, because the AFL + council are both anti-league, and gallop the wanker wont do anything about it

You need to get your facts right before you try and make agruements.

1 Please let me know how you got to $200, Tickets $25 per adult($50) $15 per child($30), I never ate at the ground except for the odd hotdog, so I wouldn't have a idea of the right cost, but lets say $40(And I believe that is more than what anyone would spend). Therefore $120 would be more like the number, so where is the additional $80?????????

2 No one likes night footy???? Where are you getting your facts from here?? personally or have you taken a poll? I think if you do your investigations, night time footy actually averages bigger crowds, so that statement doesn't wash. The TV stations are in it to make money dont you think if they were going to get better ratings playing a 3pm Saturday game, they would do it, why do you think they didn't want to change the kick off time for the grand final?????? Also Monday night games are for people to come home and watch another footy game on foxtel while they are having there Monday night meal. This generates more revenue than having another Sunday Arvo game.


3 the argument on the TV deals, should be with news limited, they own half of the NRL, and own foxtel. Where are they going to make there money??? Through Foxtel not the NRL, so through there influence on the board, they sold the rights to themselves at an under valued rate. Sell to the highest bidder?? They were always going to go to Foxtel, there is no other competitor lol, the commercial networks cannot compete.

4 3rd Party deals are limited to $50k??? Again you need to check your facts. This $50k is only for Club associated 3rd party payments(These can be also guaranteed by the club), a player can already earn an unlimited amount through other 3rd party deals with comapnies that are not linked to the club the player plays for, just like Andrew Johns and Mark Gasnier, signed deals with Channel 9, and the car dealership where Willie Mason announced he was going to the Rorters, these deals were not included in the salary cap, the reason Sonny Bill and Gaz are leaving is because they cannot generate enough of these deals, than they can earn playing in France.


Peachey are you still in school?? If so you should take up Econimics:nodlaugh, instead of using the footy show for your facts and figures. Sydney has only a 4.5m population, England and France have populations in excess of 60m each, unless the NRL is smarter in expanding to other parts of Australia(Thereofore increasing there exposure from 8m to 20m), and reducing the number of teams in Sydney. The game will not survive. There is only a limited amount of revenue that rugby league can generate in Sydney, by reducing the number of teams. The teams left can get a bigger slice of that pie, which would then enable them to better compete with French and English Rugby and Super league, by increasing the salary cap.

you should shoot yourself for even saying TV rights should be with News Ltd, there the reason our game is f*cked and the reason our Tv rights deal is so under valued, did you not read any recent articles on it, we are bigger then the AFL in terms of tv subscriptions - foxtel and all that other crap

News Ltd are only still around to recoup what they put into the game, there out as soon as they see fit, and isnt it ironic that all there media outlets are always bagging league and sucking AFL's proverbial knob
