Just out of curiosity I want to know who you guys think is/was the most influential out of these two.

Both similar type of players who played in different eras. Both back-rowers who led the club in difficult and trying times. They both work/worked their butts off to ensure the onfield success of the Sharks.

Miller was one of my favourite players growing up. Just played his guts out every game. Just like one of my favourite players in Gallen does now.

So what are your thoughts?

Most influential ? Miller by far he had everyones respect unfortunately Gals reputation ( unwarranted btw) proceeds him

As players cant split them they are both great - Miller was a bit more clever with the ball perhaps

I can't split them.

Miller was a work horse then and Gal is now.
Take me back to when Miller was playing, head held high, 110% every game, never say die attitude. I look at the Gal today and I see head held high, 110% every game, never say die attitude as well.

Gav was a legend of his time and Gal is a legend now

Time and the myth makes me say Miller. Ball player, kicker, workhorse.

I think it a little unfair to compare players from such different eras. The game has changed too much.

I agree mate. One of my earliest memories of the Sharkies is of Gav taking the ball up and the opposition couldn't bring him down; he'd just stand in the tackles. Gallen is the same, one tough guy to bring down.

Millers ball playing made him more dangerous. Gal is unquestionably tough as nails but plays a very different game than Miller. Both are fantastic in their own ways

Wow! What a loaded question. I am going to have to say Miller, but only just. He was the more skillful player. Having said that he was playing in a different time and the game was allot different.

I am glad that both of them played for the Sharks. Would hate to have to play against either one of them.

Great Sig

He is your sig, after all Lump :) Have to agree. Miller started a centre and it showed in his ball skills, smarts, and pace; all of which were better than gal's. a workhorse in defence too - i'd say the equal of gal in that dept. Miller was just brill to watch. he'd handle the ball at least twice a set and you'd be excited every time. hate to say it but, as tough, committed and uncompromising as gal is, when he gets the ball i'm holding my breath for different reasons...

I cant plit the 2 guys, I loved Miller back in the day. And respect both on playing ability.
Gallan is twice the player of miller in reality, but its a different era so its an unfair comparison.

On heart, both equal

If miller had the same facilities and coachiong and preperation as galls has these days I think miller would out do him

Gallen is not twice the player of Miller at all. If Miller was playing today he would be even more devastating. Miller wins hands down, not only was he one of the toughest backrowers, his ball handling, try assists, and his leadership by example wins hands down. Gallen is a good player but will never have the attacking ability of Miller. Respect to both and thankful they play and played for the Sharks.

Ron Massey once described Gavin Miller as "pound for pound , the best back rower to have ever played the game ".

Gav was an old fashioned ball player , who was also as tough as anyone. He could kick, pass , hit it up and run game like Wally Lewis and Peter Sterling.

Along with ET and Sludge , he is in the top 3 of all time Sharks.

Gal is getting close to this group , a great player, but its Gav for mine.

Too tough to compare players from different eras like this. Very grateful that two great players like these are Sharks. I will go as far as saying that Gav definitely had the better kicking game :).

Sorry but that's an unfair comparison - too many differences between the teams playing around/with them combined with the style/role of the players...

Gavin was an awesome centre (at one stage) for instance, whereas Gal is a pure forward.

Gav Miller was a great ball playing forward, but would never carve up the metres or tackles that Gal does.... but then again who does?

Don't get me wrong - Gavin Miller is one of the best ever - and I wish he was on our board - he is one of my sharkies heroes.
