It’s funny how referees no longer send anyone off or to the sin bin any more.

It’s the bunker that does it.

If your a ref though why put that decision on your self and risk it being wrong knowing that the bunker is going to review and make a decision on it regardless.

Better to do nothing and risk missing an incident vs getting a call wrong that swings the match and might get you dropped

Refs have a tough job having to make instant decisions on the fly why running round for 80 mins under fatigue. What I struggle to cop is the video refs ballsing up a decision though

Indeed. The refs are doing a thankless job and a mistake here & there is to be expected. But the bunker...

Commentators/media are going on about Garrick trying to start an old school kicking duel. Seemed pretty obvious watching that it was a set move to kick for Saab and/or a 20-40 but he shanked it straight down the middle instead of wide to the right where he wanted it to go.

Agreed, no way he wanted to land it there
Be praised if he’d pulle it off
Didn’t though

Curious to hear your perspective of that as a strategy Burgo as someone with a coach's mindset.
Very high-risk, high-reward but with other team focusing on kick chase seems your likelihood of getting the ball to touch would be higher, granted you don't shank it.

Suppose most fullback aren't really known for their long kicking game though.

Plan was there execution was horrid

Catching out Penrith with a 20/40 would definitely put you in a good position to keep pushing them

Don’t **** it up though…

Seen a quote from Seibs that his game plan was try different things because that’s the only way teams will beat Penrith, and I think he’s right.

It obviously back fired very badly and could argue it cost them the game. But do Penrith come over the top of Manly late regardless? Probably yes.

Yep if you just let them play their game they will grind you away. Need to take some risks to get them on the back foot - but if you don’t execute you need to be very ready to defend as they will come back at you hard every time you make even a small mistake

Yeah as you said above. Landing a 20/40, then perhaps scoring off it now puts Manly in a position to actually beat them.

I think other teams will take a leaf out of that game when they play Penrith next. Not so much the 20/40 but shifting it early in their own half did look promising for Manly

Yeah that's fair.

The two Manly tries were extremely soft by Penriths' standards.

The only time teams have had success against Penrith seems to be when they've pushed the ball around. The problem is most teams feel apart in their completion rates with that style.

Brisbane currently are the only team in the comp who seem to be able to pull it off. Then the cowboys on their day.
