Some weird calls in that one.
I only joined late but penalty for swiping an arm and not hitting anything and for not dragging a player out?

You're allowed to hold the ball in the scrum. The defence can't break until the ball exits. When the ball exits it up to the attack.

I wonder how long the attacking team can hold the ball up before the ref intervenes

The opposition should try pushing for a change.

they often get penalised for that unfortunately - especially if it's the team on the defense that does the pushing , hard to get away with challenging for the ball as well or striking a foot out at it. Scrums should be a genuine contest, not the farce they have become

may as well have half the defensive team just sit down on their bums and be allowed to get up and defend once the attacking team plays the ball

Good question. Three minutes to go and you're up by 2, get an attacking scrum and waste the clock haha

I wondered a similar thing around ball carriers stopping on their run to avoid an obstruction penalty, what if the defence refused to touch him? He can't lay there all game and he can't go anywhere without being panelized, ref can't call a tackle if no one touches him. Eventually the ref must have to blow the obstruction to get things moving.

But those poor ****s got enough trouble with the absolute basics of the game without throwing curveballs at them.

I thought you are only allowed to push if they decide to keep the ball in the scrum? Maybe not, cos you would think you'd see it more.
