I'm happy with 7. Carney, 6. Graham. When we signed Carney I thought he could play much the same way as Thurston has at NQ- a supremely skilled 5/8th who can play 7 because he has such a well-rounded skill set and a great kicking game. I think someone said it the other day... give him the keys. Graham's tough defense and short passing game will compliment him.

Good way to start the year.

Not happy was initial reaction -Thought it would limit options -but then I thought if you have Robson or townsend on the bench ,you are playing a side that has your measure in attack put in townsend or robson to half and suddenly the opposition has got to rethink their defence. Certainly worth a try.

Bit of a worry too if Carneys fitness is so far ahead of the rest ... Does that really say hes freakishly fit or are the other guys training regimes not been up to standard of rest of NRL ?

He didn't take any time off over xmas it seems and was also doing outside training as well, he has no doubt been told that he needs to be a leader at the club and has decided the best way for him to do that is by leading by example with hits fitness.

Fit body = Fit mind probably a bit of a freak as well.

The only thing that does worry me is Gallen talking about his skill level and how the rest of the team are behind hopefully the rest of the team can level up.

It's not exactly hard hitting journalism. I wouldn't read too much into the fitness thing, it's mostly just a feel good article designed to talk up carney a bit.

It's good to know he's doing well though.

Was abit dissapointed to hear of Graham and Carney combo but I think its the smartest option to start with, then see how the others fit in.

It's probably the safest and yet it still has an eye towards the future. It's probably the most solid way to start. If we need to make adjustments later, so be it.

Safe and structured football. Something different for us all.

No surprise there really. The playing squads in the last few years under the Stuart/Flanagan coaching havent exactly had high skill levels. Other players need to lift their game.

It's a bit too conservative in my opinion.

It allows an extra 'real' forward in the squad but at the same time I reckon will starve the backs of good ball. So in other words it'll be more of the same with Carney being an improvement on Townsend / Kelly.

Exactly, good post and what Ive been saying. Flanagan has the perfect opportunity here to re-vamp this side and turn it into a multi-faceted attacking unit.

Graham at lock, Gallen in the second row, Kelly/Robson & Carney in the halves, DeGois/Robson/Peachey as hookers
Toops, Faffita, Tagatese coming off the bench

Wont happen though will it?
