the only thing i can add to this whole debate is that those of us over the age of 35 would prob lean towards sludge whereas those under 35 would lean towards ET

i would've loved to see them in the centers together(fantasy i know!)

imagine ET finishing a sludge line break!

i grew up in penrith and i remember being at a sharks game at penrith park beck in the mid 80s , penrith were still the chocolate soldiers, et played and i remember seeing myself on tv after the game, that was the day i became a sharks fan , et is a legend , when i used to get taken to shark park as a youngster, the only player i wanted to see was et, i respect sludge for what he done at the sharks and the hard work he put into the sharks after he retired, but i never got to see him play, i went for the sharks because of et, i had the chance to met him last year and have a chat and i still reckon he could put on a black white and blue guernsey and streak away for a few more 80 metre tries

hey parko is there a link to the top 100 players i can go to

http://www.centenaryofrugbyleague.com.au/site/the-players.aspx?cat=3&list=true

the names arent ranked, just in alphabetic order.

yeh i must admit i wasnt around to see sludge play, which probably does have a bearing on my choice, but ET was just magic. my passion for the sharks was ignited through the undeniable skill of ET, i remember watching him in one of his last games for the sharks (i think it might have been when he got injured against melbourne..?) and i couldnt believe that such a great player was giving it all away.
a couple of years ago, i happened to see ET in carringbah, and i could do nothing but stand there in awe

true, they are both legends at the sharks and always will be.
In saying that though, Steve Rogers was the reason this 8 yr old boy-
started playing rugby league,
wore full sharks uniform when ever i wasnt at school,
learnt to goal kick,
insisted on wearing the number three every game i played.
What can i say? The guy was a god to me through my youth.
RIP Sludge.

Et

For all his positives I blieve he (along with David Hatch) was our best ever captain.

Him and Lang were a formidable partnership. A partnership which very few players wanted to move away from. And we had very few scandals.

I think maybe Rogers was slightly better individualy. But ET made the team better than it would have been without his guidance. He provided loyalty and he got it in return.

Some say that Sludge was disloyal by going to the Dragons?... Maybe... Et nearly signed up with the Tigers, would we think so highly of him if he went?

I was lucky enough to see ET play live and also to meet and chat with Sludge when he was in the employ of the Perth Reds....but if I had to choose, which is the reason for this thread, I will say Sludge.

I think Sempa Fi sums up my thoughts though.:cheers

yeh, i probably wouldnt think as highly of ET if he went to tigers.

which is why i think less highly of mat rogers for playing for gold coast.

i just cant see how someone who was so loyal and meant so much to the club and the fans of the club turn around and put on a different coloured jersy then play against that club that they used to be an integral part of.

I know it's an Ettingshausen Vs Rogers thread, but the Sharks also had one Mr Tommy Bishop mate.

Any Youtubes on Tommy that you know of Mega?

No I don't BUZ, but here are some great Tommy photos and anecdotes from the wonderful Era of the Biff website, if you haven't already seen them:

Gee it was a different game back then! :D

The mighty Sharks also once had a certain Gavin Miller playing for them and I would rate him right up there alongside these names - think playmaking genius and tackling machine combined in one footballer, and you'll know what I'm talking about...
