Cronulla sign Wests Tigers centre Dean Collis to a two-year deal
July 13, 2009

Cronulla have continued their aggressive recruitment drive with the signing of Wests Tigers centre Dean Collis to a two-year deal.

Collis joins fellow Sharks recruits John Morris (Tigers), Paul Aiton (Penrith), Adam Cuthbertson (Manly) and Albert Kelly (Parramatta).

The Sharks have also announced the re-signing of experienced goal kicking winger Luke Covell to a new one-year deal.

Sharks Coach Ricky Stuart said he had a lot of faith in 23-year-old Collis.

"You only have to go back two years ago and Dean had a representative experience playing for City and I still think his best football is in front of him," Stuart said.

Currently recovering from an arm injury, Collis has played just eight top grade games for the Tigers this year and 77 in total during an NRL career which began when he was a 17-year-old in 2003.

Collis has scored 20 NRL tries and kicked 15 goals from 18 attempts in 2008.

Great news and a boost to the fact that Pomeroy want get a start.....

Yeah i have been saying i think Poms in form is great at centre (and i still believe that). But now with Collis and Matty Wright then i will be happy with that with Poms hopefully playing off the bench as a impact backrower (which he has been doing well with)

You beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Finally we will have a good showing of speed, now with Poms most likely permanently on the bench. How do you reckon we will line them up? Matty Wright and Covs on the same wing like this year. Or have a young gun side in Ferguson and Wright then Collis and Covs.

Either way we are in better shape for next year than this year.

I think Poms will find it hard to get in the team next year until he superglues his hands

Well i do like that we have other options so he has to earn his way into the side with form. I rate an in-form Pomeroy with his damaging runs and strong tackles over the speed of Matt Wright. But if you are going by the form of this year then Poms doesnt even come close to Wright. So both will get the chance to prove themselves in the preseason and the one who doesnt get picked will just have to lift their game in NSW Cup until they push their way in.

Edit: i'd definitely have Cov and Wright on one side and Fergo and Collis on the other. Have the experienced player creating opportunities for the young speedster, both wingers can leap and Cov And Collis arent afraid of the tryline themselves. What a backline!

Sharks snap up Tigers centre Collis

Struggling Cronulla have continued to rebuild for the 2010 NRL season with Wests Tigers centre Dean Collis agreeing to join the club on a two-year deal.

Collis, 23, who is currently sidelined with a broken arm, has made more than 70 first grade appearances for the Tigers since making his debut in 2003.

The former City Origin player is Sharks coach Ricky Stuart's fifth major signing for next season, with John Morris, also from the Tigers, along with Manly's Adam Cuthbertson, Penrith hooker Paul Aiton and exciting young Parramatta five-eighth Albert Kelly.

The Sharks have also agreed terms with experienced goal kicking winger Luke Covell, who has re-signed for another year.

"You only have to go back two years ago and Dean had a representative experience playing for City and I still think his best football is in front of him," said Stuart.

"I'm excited about the fact that in Dean we get a genuine centre, someone who can play with the ball before the line or through the line.

"He's got very good skill and having talked to him, he is also very much a professional.

"As for Luke Covell, he is a great clubman and an asset for our club both on and off the field. I am very pleased to have him here again next year."

Awesome!! Great buy

If Poms wants to play 1st grade then its a simple scenario. Play better than the others and HOLD the ball

WOOOO! Nothing but good news from here on in!! This is great. Could we be the Bulldogs of 2010???

If collis stays healthy all year, Ill bet that Fergo is leading try scorer.

Are Afamasaga and Seu Seu definitely off-contract? I dont doubt it, just havent seen it anywhere.

A post here a few days ago quoted a newspaper article re: Seu Seu being off contract.

I'm pretty sure Afamasaga signed only a 1 year deal.

Some sources also say that Williams and Snowden are off contract, but apparently that is incorrect.
pretty sure we gave williams the same sorta contract treatment as gallen and bird (before we tore his up)
Wouldn't mind,

Ross, Kearney, CUx2 and Brown from that list if they are well priced. (Brown is probably the fastest player in the team at the moment, the only other it could possibly be would be Stapo which I dont know how quick he is)

stap is quick, probably faster than brown

Browne is probly quikest over 100m. But Stapo has much better acceleration.

ANd great news! couldnt be more happy with those signings, and resignings.

now just resign Kearney and Williams!
