If we sign Sam Burgess that'll be massive. Though I'd expect he'll demand atleast 300k. Though I heard he would love to link up with Ellis in AUS.

Does anyone have a rough idea of how much we have left in the salary cap ? Are we in the hunt for Burgess or is it just speculation ?

Is Burgess off to Australia?
6:30am 9th July 2009
By Dave Craven

Bulls ace Sam Burgess could be about to follow the path of England team-mate Adrian Morley and join Sydney City Roosters.

Reports have surfaced that NRL champions Manly Sea Eagles and Wests Tigers are both keen on enticing the young Bradford superstar Down Under.

However, the T&A understands the Roosters – where fellow prop and big pal Morley became such a hero over five glorious seasons – are also in the hunt for one of Super League’s hottest properties, along with Cronulla Sharks.

Burgess, 20, only signed a new three-year-deal with the Bulls last summer but has always expressed his desire to one day test his skills against the best Australia has to offer.

NRL clubs are circling now and the Roosters are in the market for a dynamic forward as early as next season.

They and Manly are believed to be heading the queue of suitors and are willing to offer Burgess more than £1million for a three-year deal.

However, the player is under contract at Odsal until the end of 2011, so any potential buyers would need to bid a major sum for Bradford’s star attraction.

Aussie clubs are loathe to fork out transfer fees so a player-exchange is the most likely way forward if any deal is eventually done.

But that could only happen if Bradford are interested in what’s on offer – and they also have their own quota limit to consider.

Ironically, Burgess, whose manager is former Bulls chairman Chris Caisley, is currently suffering from some indifferent form but Manly recruitment boss Noel Cleal confirmed their interest.

“We have spoken to Sam and he has made no secret of the fact that he wants to come and play down here,” said Cleal.

“He is a talented young player and probably the pick of the next generation of stars over there.”

Tigers are also keen, having seen the success of Burgess’ England team-mate Gareth Ellis with them them following his switch there from Leeds Rhinos this season.

I would be happy with Collis. Play him on Covells side. I havnt seen this Burgess guy but he seems to get good raps. If hes what hes all talked up to be, we should go for him with Ross's wages, although not sure what players we could give them for him, maybe Pomeroy?

But hope we get Collis, hed be a solid centre. Still would like a leading centre on the other side with ferguson. our back 5 would look pretty promising if we fill number 4 with a really good centre. Would like browne as back up as hes not ready to fill it yet.

1. Stapleton
2. Covell/Kemp/Jamie Simpson/Daniella
3. Collis?
4. ? / Bukuya/Browne
5. Ferguson

collis is a must, but we should pass on the pom player. we have good forwards already for next year. our back row is topou, gallen and williams, douglas and snowy up front, wright who played pretty good for parra last weekend(real workhorse i thought) and cuthbertson who can cover first and second row if needed, and they signed the best young prop from toyota cup from the titans, who is streaks ahead of his nearest competition from what i have read.millo and vea provide depth, and aiton is a good signing, because he can also cover second row if needed. if we are thinking of going after a pommy player, kirk yeaman from hull would be a great player. he is a centre, that has played for great britain, and had a whale of a game against leeds that i watched on tv last night. i don't think we need more forwards.

his' injuries are a concern, but at least the last one is a isolated injury that took place in a training drill where he broke a bone in his' wrist or something, not sure what the others wer though??

Probably knee or shoulder though, and hence he has given them even more time to repair

Hard to say really because no one, including media, have said even a guess for how much we have signed any of our new guys for. But really we should still have a pretty healthy amount left. If you look at it we had Ross for over 400,000, we had Kearney who was on 200,000 and is now all but gone, we had Filiga on 200,000 who is gone, we had Seymour who topped up his contract last year at Kimmorley's expense so he would have been on something decent also, Maitua's money, Simmons money (cant have been massive but would have been ok) and then anyone else who we still let go (and there are alot off contract).

So really it sounds like some of these guys like Cuthbo, Kelly, Morris, Aiton and Va Ve cost a fair bit each i would say from looking at it all together that we would have plenty left for a couple of decent players for either next year or save it for the year after.

are we looking at geoff daniella

Last i heard was a week ago he got toured the facilities but was not tabled a formal offer at the time. Read that somewhere.

In regard to my earlier post RLW claims Seymour was reportedly on $150,000 a year.

Sharks sign Tiger Dean Collis

Sharks sign Tiger Dean Collis
July 13, 2009

The Sharks have continued their aggressive foray into the player market with the acquisition of Wests Tigers centre Dean Collis.

The signing of Collis to a two-year contract complements an impressive Sharks roster for 2010 which has also added fellow Tiger John Morris, Penrith’s Paul Aiton, Adam Cuthbertson from Manly and boom youngster Albert Kelly from the Eels.

The Sharks have also announced the re-signing of the experienced goal kicking winger Luke Covell to a new one-year deal.

Coach Ricky Stuart was understandably pleased that Collis would join the Sharks ranks from the beginning of next season and that Covell has agreed to remain at the club in 2010.

“It’s exciting for us,” Stuart said. “You only have to go back two years ago and Dean had a representative experience playing for City and I still think his best football is in front of him.

“I’m excited about the fact that in Dean we get a genuine centre, someone who can play with the ball before the line or through the line. He’s got very good skill and having talked to him, he is also very much a professional.

“As for Luke Covell, he is a great clubman and an asset for our club both on and off the field. I am very pleased to have him here again next year.”

Battling injury and currently on the sideline with a forearm problem, Collis has played just eight top grade games for the Tigers in 2009 and 77 in total during an NRL career which began when he was an 17-year-old back in 2003.

While a recognised try-scorer, having crossed the stripe 20 times in his NRL career, Collis is also a competent goal kicker, slotting 15 goals from 18 attempts in 2008 at a very impressive 83 per cent strike rate.

Still only 23-years of age, Collis also brings valuable experience that can only benefit a backline which this year unearthed talented youngsters such as Blake Ferguson, Nathan Stapleton and Matt Wright in 2009.

In other Sharks signing news they have also come to terms with current NRL squad members Grant Millington and Jayson Bukuya on one-year contracts, while last week halfback Scott Porter signed a one-year deal with a one-year option.
