Chad,

Mate, I'm with you. I get a bit teary when I think about how good going to the footy used to be. At least it was believable then - now it's a farce.

I guess we're a soon to be extinct breed us old dinosaurs like you and I... you know - old buggers who actually love the game and love our Sharkies... love our local juniors and love our community.

You're right mate, I wish we could return to the old days. But I don't think they will now. I think it comes down to Gen Y being targeted to come to games and Gen Y just don't like just sitting there and reading the Big League and taking it all in. They want the jazz, the noise, the colour, the excitement, the fireworks. They can't sit still for five seconds. Boredom seems to creep in very quickly.

how about a sub group called sharks forever old foggies. we could sit and talk about "when i was a boy"

Where can I join?? I'm proud to be an old fogie. Found my car keys but where's my glasses? Oh yeah, on top of my forehead.

Mrs fitz refers to me as "CRAFT"

Can't Remember A F*cken Thing

I sugggested it was because I had become so accustomed to relying on her to tell me to do things (like; mow the lawn, take the bins out, book the car in for a service etc.,) that my powers of memory had simply withered away and perished.

She threw a block of Coon at me... I forgot to duck.

they had more then one club chasing the JV with them, so we are lucky to get the JV with them

though in time i would like to see either a fully fledged sharks nsw cup team back in the NSW Cup [f*ck that comp needs a revamp like NYC] or a local team, none of this bardon ridge cobra's sh!t

im happy with the current JV we can get our hands on some more of parra's juniors [parra cant sign all of them]

Doesn't one Karlos Falinga play for them mmmmmmmmmm

no, he plays for Wenty

how about a sub group called sharks forever old foggies. we could sit and talk about "when i was a boy"

I've got a revolutionary idea. How about we give every first grade side a team. then we play them before the NRL game.

we could then move the under 20's game to be the first game of the day. I'd even give it an awsome new name. Something along the lines of "President's Cup" would be nice. :cheers

... also, we could have staged junior competition for players to represent their local community...

Like:

Under 16s we could call The Harold Matthews Cup
Under 18s we could call The SG Ball Cup
Under 20s we could call The Jersey Flegg Cup

The idea is that you play in those junior grades along with other rep players and get intensive training and development and from there, if you're good enough you might be lucky enough to be selected to play in The President's Cup.

While we're at it we could also make the President's Cup for under 23s
Reserve Grade could be Open Age but is there for the players who are "in waiting" for First Grade to hone there skills and keep match fitness so that they're ready to step up to First Grade in the event of injury, or non-performance or representative selection of a First Grade player.

Do you think it'll ever catch on?

2010 NSW Cup

Now that the Cabramatta JV with Sharks has fallen over for 2010, what are the club's plans for its overage players?
Where will they be playing? Is it true that they'll be farmed out to Cronulla A Grade teams?

CRONULLA are the latest club to abandon the NSW Cup, while in other changes the club has announced a respected businessman as their new group chief executive.

The Sharks have pulled out of the NSW Cup because they can't afford to field a team in the second-tier competition and are currently reviewing alternatives.

CEO Richard Fisk said the most likely scenario would involve excess players being "farmed out" to a team in regional NSW. Bundaberg Shield sides Perth Reds and Chester Hill Rhinos are also unlikely to compete next year because of cash flow issues.

Meanshwile John Osborne, who spent 15 years as CEO of the Mingara Club on the Central Coast, will assume a role that oversees the leagues club, football club and property development at Cronulla. Fisk will continue in his current role.

"It is all positive and we are on the way up," said Cronulla chairman Damian Irvine. "The role of Group CEO has been created to engage the community and drive an evolution that will result in the Sharks being seen as the benchmark for professional sporting and hospitality organisations in Australia.

"During his 15 years as CEO of Mingara Club, John was able to transform a relatively obscure club into one of the largest and most successful clubs and community sporting organisations in Australia.

"John's background and experience fits like a glove with the recent reinvigoration of the Sharks' entire organisation."

Osborne will start his new role on January 4.

Cronulla to contest NSW Cup
Friday, 04th December 2009

The New South Wales Rugby League is pleased to announce the Cronulla Sharks will field a team in the NSW Cup competition in 2010.

The state’s premier open age competition will now comprise 12 teams and will run over a 26 week schedule mirroring the NRL competition.

NSW Rugby League General Manager Geoff Carr says the addition of the Sharks is important for the future development of Rugby League in NSW.

“The NSWRL has been working closely with the Cronulla club to ensure they will be represented in next year’s NSW Cup,” Mr. Carr said.

“This result is a step in the right direction for both the NSWRL and the Cronulla club.

“The League received a strong message from NRL clubs asking for us to provide a competition which would allow their players to have 25 weeks of competitive football.

“The inclusion of the Sharks and the new Central Coast Crusaders will allow us to do just that.

The NSW Cup will run over 26 weeks and will begin on the 13th of March with three double headers across the Sydney metropolitan area.

For the first time in NSWRL history a three pool system will be used for rounds one through three pitting traditional clubs Newtown, Western Suburbs, North Sydney and Balmain against each other.

Now that the participating teams are finalised the NSWRL is in a position to finalise the draw for 2010. The completed draw for 2010 will be released early next week.

Pools for rounds one through three are as follows:

Pool One (Foundation Pool)
• Balmain Ryde-Eastwood Tigers
• Newtown Jets
• North Sydney Bears
• Western Suburbs Magpies

Pool Two
• Central Coast Crusaders
• Melbourne Storm
• Wentworthville Magpies
• Canterbury Bankstown Bulldogs

Pool Three
• Shellharbour Dragons
• Windsor Wolves
• Auckland Vulcans
• Cronulla Sharks

Yes that is fantastic news. I thought we couldn't afford to field a side this season - what's changed?

Sounds like it was because Para wouldn't let us side with Cabra, and the NSWRL seemed to want us to have a side.
