Starting to regret drunkenly telling Lyall I'd have his babies

Article on NRL page sounds better than the whole gloom and doom thing. Not a great situation but not the end of the world. Belt tightening certainly bit not finished.....yet

"We needed to do this business restructure to ensure our long-term future," Russell told NRL.com.
"We are under financial stresses at the moment that we need to address. Unfortunately this is necessary. I admit the timing is very poor.
"It is sad and I'm very disappointed. And I realise it leaves us with a lean team but we're a very competent group and we're striving hard for a successful 2019 season.
"The financial stability of our organisation is the challenge all NRL clubs have. You want to run a profitable business so we had to make some radical changes internally to head on the right path."

Hopefully not too fitting

Would you sponsor a team that currently has a potential **** storm hanging over them?

That he has created.. you hire a CEO for his management, leadership and connections. What sponsors has he given the club ?

And If the CEO of every club that’s bent the rules self reported the whole NRL would be under investigation, can you imagine if the broncos/roosters self reported ? There’s reasons they don’t and reasons why they’re premier clubs.. they know what rules to bend and how to bend them. There is a lot of politics behind the scenes and the NRL/Greenberg have very little to no love for the club... mr CEO brand new in his role without understanding the true politics gave them the green light to bend us over. I just hope he knows what he’s doing

Interesting that Barry Russell says no more staff will be let go. Does that include coaching staff? If so, then Flanno must be staying.

He didn't create it, he wasn't around when the cap stuff happened.

You know what I mean.. You're in Lala land if you think you can get by in this comp without bending the rules and if you think every club does not do it.

It's just how it is, I'm not condoning it but that's just how it goes.. especially a minor amount like he says it was. If the club were to fold because of this sht lets see what tune your singing then.

It's gross mismanagement if we were paying on average 150k a year to our digital and event team.

A tad dramatic, don't you think?

Tigers are already merged , can't see them ever getting on board with a third entity. Balmain don't place nice with Wests as it is

I don't think a merge with souths would happen now which was on the cards when NRL took over from ARL. St George wouldn't work, Titans a smokey...

We would prob get setup in Perth as the WA team, at least wouldn't be merged but yea jumping the gun a bit here lads

We are in financial trouble, no **** nothing has changed, BAU - just a **** stirrer articles for clicks

Footy clubs don't make profit with the exception of a few, there will always be massive challenges around staying afloat, gotta play it smart

There would never be another merged. Ever.

If we, or someone else went under it would be straight up to Gosford. Do not pass go, don't collect $200.

Or, I bit more unlikely, Perth.

Sad to hear for the staff and not a great sign. Though hopefully some of it is just for rational business reasons, e.g. we produce more digital content and more community/fan events than even most hardcore Sharks supporters can keep up with.

I was a direct beneficiary of this and regularly thought "How is this a prudent use of the clubs limited resources?"

No. Not when a request for a computer gets denied.

So are you just going to direct your disgust at the new guy that wasn't around when the **** happened, or the people that are actually responsible for it?

I can tell you they are not. Non executive staff are paid well below market rates and expected to work damn hard too.
