Agree tips... sounds like politicians going at it.

Ive always been astounded how all they do is point out the flaws in the opposition rather than say, "bugger them, this is what im going to do."

Three tickets seek Sharks new board

Three tickets seek Sharks new board
By Brad Forrest
April 16, 2013, 5 a.m.

TENSION surfaced between three separate tickets and some of the 24 candidates vying for the eight director positions for the Cronulla Sharks board as the week-long voting for club members begins today.

Under the club's constitution, four of the eight directors up for election must be filled by candidates who are members of both the Cronulla Sutherland Sharks leagues club and football club, with counting ending before the Sharks AGM on Monday night, April 22.

Claims of electioneering misbehaviour arose, including copyright and IP infringement and ignoring the clubs constitution.

It forced Sharks boss Bruno Cullen to issue a warning about "colourful and unsavoury comments" in a statement.

"Our constitution is available for members and any interested person to read. It includes a clear set of rules that all candidates standing for the election must abide by.

"Some candidates seem to be ignoring it. Have no doubt, the club will seek to ensure that all candidates abide by the constitution — without fear or favour.

"In recent days there have been some flagrant abuses of the rules of the election and the people responsible for these abuses have been contacted by the club's lawyers and warned to cut it out.

"A warning is not necessary under the rules. The club will not be drawn into the campaign rhetoric but will not stand by and allow its management to be defamed and maligned in electioneering.

"Everyone is treated the same. We have a great club. We don't need people acting badly."

Sharks board chairman Glenn Coleman is unopposed and has incumbents Craig Douglas, Peter Kerr, Greg Holland and Phillip Tiernan running with him, along with Matthew Hartley.

Damian Keogh's ticket includes John Dunphy, Darren McConnell, Andrew Boldeman, Kevin Dwyer, Paul McCarthy, Craig Airey, Dino Mezzatesta and Paul O'Neile.

Glenn Gorrick's ticket includes Mark Goodwin and Mark McGaw, and there are six independents in former chairman Damian Irvine, Greg Mcaleer, Peter O'Driscoll, David Boldeman, Dane Sorensen and Peter Cobb.

This is a brief description of the 24 candidates (taken from longer profiles posted to Sharks members last week).

Rebel ticket threatened with disqualification after breach

Controversy has marred the start of Cronulla's board elections, with candidates for the Sharks Unity ticket warned they will be disqualified for further constitutional and intellectual property breaches.

On the eve of the polls, which open on Tuesday, interim Cronulla chief executive Bruno Cullen took the extraordinary step of issuing a statement on the Sharks and leagues club websites to remind candidates to adhere to election rules.

The message was a thinly-veiled swipe at Sharks Unity, which has been accused of breaching intellectual property rights and flaunting the rules set out in the constitution.

One of the breaches includes the dissemination of electioneering material featuring the images of Cronulla players, including Todd Carney and Anthony Tupou.

Rival candidates have complained about the practice, claiming it appears the players are endorsing the ticket when in fact they are not.

There have also been claims that propaganda material has been handed out on club premises - a rule breach - as well as suggestions the Cronulla management has been defamed. A legal letter was sent to the Sharks Unity ticket in relation to the practices.

Sharks Unity were forced to issue the following correction on its website: ''This website previously displayed an image of Todd Carney wearing the Cronulla Sharks club jersey. The use of this image was not authorised.

''The Cronulla Sutherland District Rugby League Club and the NRL did not approve any third party agreement with the Team Unity ticket or for its candidates to use any image of its club players in club colours.

''Todd Carney and both the Cronulla Sutherland Leagues Club and the Cronulla Sutherland Football District Rugby League Club do not endorse the candidacy of Team Unity nor do they endorse any person or associated companies mentioned on this website.''

Cronulla legend Mark McGaw, who is also running for the board, believes Sharks Unity unfairly gained an advantage in the lead-up to the ballot. ''When all candidates are doing the right thing and trying to protect the club, it only takes one to bring the club into disrepute,'' McGaw said.

''I've got photos of myself in jerseys, and I'm not allowed to use them, so I'm not getting the same level playing field.

''I know that other candidates are feeling the same way, and I'm just game to say what they're not. If certain candidates are breaching rules now, what are they going to be like when they get on to the board?''

It is understood any further breaches will result in a suspension of membership, which would result in candidates being disqualified.

As a former detective I have come up against numerous Lawyers. Some of them you wouldn't feed, wouldn't know how to conduct their own investigation or fight for their client. Then again, there were others that left me for dead. I suppose the issue for everyone when picking their legal advice, is to decide which one is prepared to roll the sleeves up.

There's about three people out of the 24 that I think are worthwhile candidates.

The rest are bottom feeders. Not expecting great things from this election at all.

Isn't it interesting that The Daily Telegraph has not published anything about Glenn Coleman's open letter to Members or Bruno Cullen's comments about inappropriate electioneering of some candidates.

it's a disgrace Fitz, it truly is.

There has to be payback for this in some way - no doubt News Ltd will get first scoop on anything to do with the ASADA + ongoing "inside information" on player movements.

I mean how did the Telegraph know to turn up the minute Gallen walked into the Sting Bar that night... it's already started!

"tips" and "frenzy" I am still here after being away for a few days. I will agree to disagree about everything you say except for the comment about solicitors. The vast majority you would not feed. They go straight from uni to driving a desk. They brief everything out and the only time you hear a comment from them is when they ask counsel if they want anymore water.

Anyway pretty soon we will all know the result of the election. Let's hope it's good for the Club.

I'd like to know how much they paid those hot chicks today to give out their unity newspapers?

Also there was another bloke standing at the bar giving out a flyer for some other sharks group for the board. I told him I already had the unity paper and his reply was "****** unity". Right. Anyone remember what their group was?

sounds like a sharks vision card. the only hand out they had on sunday was a how to vote card.

isnt this against the rules?

Then I won't bother asking what I was going to ask. Just did yourself out of a vote though as despite what you may have perceived I hadn't ruled you out.

So, Dunphy is no longer on the Unity ticket.

Has he pulled out of the election altogether or just disassociated himself with that ticket?

I've heard conflicting reports.

He can't denominate. He'll still be on the ballot paper and can still be voted for. He'll be an independent now. It is not known, as far as I know, if he has disassociated himself from Unity. Just coming off the ticket does not mean he has disassociated.

People need to be VERY cautious when considering Unity.

Lost at sea.
What is confusing me in all of this is, I want to vote for vision. But if they are only a five team ticket, then what happens for the other 3 positions, I want to vote for those that will work together successfully, not against each other like a hung parliament of sorts, I don't know the complete ins and outs of who's who in the remaining people running and how they would react Working with another ticket..... Fitz or anyone want to pm me A dumbed down rundown?
