Fair, good explanation

A lot of talk about defensive resolve as something he would bring but seems to be a very attack oriented coach from what we have seen.
You would find that flair we’ve developed over the last couple of years would be driven from the players within the backline more than any coaching.

Are you saying it’s not his fault but we should still blame him?
We lost to Rabbitohs and Raiders in the exact same fashion.

You want to see improvements

We had a VERY soft draw last year, it is not wrong to point out concerns

Raiders didn’t have Papali - Rabbitohs didn’t have Tatola and we still got smothered

The only difference in those games this year was Trindall coming up with very good plays at crucial times otherwise we wouldve not been as close

well we ain’t a good defensive side so if the attack is purely thanks to the players coach can’t be doing much

There is some merit in what you’re saying but he is a rookie first grade coach, who came 2nd in his first year and we’re 3 games into our second season.

We are in it for the long haul with Fitz and should be prepared to ride the waves. We aren’t the only team that are going to be up and down throughout the season. We also have our best player due back next week.

Calling it as I see it. There is a hang over from the JMO era that was falsely resolved for 3 months early 2022 then a softish draw carried us through on Hynes back.

Our forward pack isn't effective and we have the discipline of a crack addict in a drug den combined with the defensive resolve of a sponge cake.

Our attack will only take us so far

If your happy where we are at no worries and wanna give the coaching staff a pass. I'm not

JMO was a rookie coach too, he would be crucified for this level of performance
Fitz is the one who brought Hynes to the club don’t forget

I hear you… we are investing in him for sure but we also don’t know if it’s definitely going to work out

Trends are real and there is a trend - he needs to get on top of it before it gets deeper

His bench rotation is ordinary

You can clearly see Rudolph is exhausted towards the 20 min mark and he stays out there longer

Isn’t Fitzgibbon a defence minded coach?

Keeping that in mind, would you say sharks have improved their defence in 2 years (well, 2 off seasons).

Coach out there making tackles is he?
Nobody is. Players are definitely significantly to blame for our woes, but they don’t look to me like they’ve spent 18 months doing extremely defence oriented training.
If they have we are ****ed

How so?

Third best defensive record in the competition last year.

We’re ****ing three rounds in, pretty bloody good effort in 18 months really.

We seems to concede far too often when our try line is under attack, I would say

Doesn’t seem to be a lot of cohesion on the line.

Hopefully we find the nrls 3rd best defence again and it wasn’t helped by facing a lot of easy teams last year

I think we may have stayed stagnant / equal footing to our efforts last year, but other teams are lifting to play us based on our position at the end of the season.

Other teams have improved whereas maybe we have stayed the same.
small sample size I know, but that is just my gut feel from the first 3 rounds

It’s legitimately the third game in out of 27 rounds lol.

Or maybe, just maybe, it’s round three and there are a couple of things to iron out.

And we conceded too often and looked disorganised. How many rounds in does it stop being lol?

If we acknowledge it needs work and it gets better later that doesn’t mean it was good now

Yeah, that’s great, get the iron out Fitz.
I don’t want a creased defence still when it’s only round 10 of 27 or it’s only round 20 of 27

No, but it means a team is always continuing to develop.

Go watch each game again, the tries we have conceded are not from poor coaching and poor defensive structures. They’ve been from awful individual defensive decisions (Talakai, round 1), awful individual one on one tackles (Moylan round 1 & 3, Ramien round 2) and awful individual positioning (Katoa round 2 & 3).
