Thats ingrained in our clubs DNA though. Cronulla has always been associated with choking and bottling, its just who we are. We dropped it for a very brief period in 2016, but it inevitably came back very quickly, throughout our history, stuffing up big games is what we do. No coach apart from Flanno briefly has been able to change that.

I mean are we seriously expecting to win a premiership at the moment? With Penrith in their golden era? A resurgent Brisbane? Thats unrealistic no matter who the coach is at the moment. If Fitz can get us back into the top 4 next year I’ll call that a major success, if we finish worse then 6th? Yeah even I’ll start asking questions.

For now, he has my total backing into 2024.
I back him for 2024 too but he did come to instill a winning culture here, right?

Maybe it is time we change how we always have been…

The capitulations against the Warriors, Dolphins, Knights and Storm. They were never serious about winning it.

There needs to be a big attitude adjustment in the off-season. It should be Fitzy's first job.

Don't forget being down 30 nil against Manly

Looking outside the square for a minute - is there an issue with the fitness / protection of injuries of the players?

I think we're lacking the professional staff that a lot of the richer clubs have.

I think it's more the lacking of hardened rep players.

Still no one tells me who we replace Fitz with. @Milkshark said Flanno and I’m sure he was joking.

But no one offers anyone else so you are all talking through your hats.

You all say the coach is **** but don’t offer any solutions.

We’re stuck

I said we should’ve gone to Flanno before Fitz but that’s deaded

It is what it is / the board made their decision so it’s on their head also

I think we all need to take a chill pill re our coach.

Let's think about it for a minute.

Over the last 50 years we have had some of the best rugby league minds ever produced including an Immortal that haven't resulted in a premiership. I'm talking the calibre of Jack Gibson (with Ron Massey in his ear) and Arthur Beetson.

We've had Ricky Stuart, John Lang, Chris Anderson - guys that either won premierships before or after coaching with us that couldn't win.

Even the legendary Flanno took how many years and a team chock block full of rep players (which funnily enough got found out cheating the cap the year before and after 2016. Hmmn)

Now we have a rookie coach with players of a mix bag of experience, youth and potential (no real Origin representation over last few years) and are expecting instant success? This was always going to be a slow burn and long term investment.

I’m chill

We just want to see improvement not lip service

We’re a very healthy club there is no reason in the world for us to not get better - it’s on the coach

I don’t see anyone saying get rid of him but I don’t think we should give him a free pass next year also

I don’t expect instant success, but I expect a team that can consistently play to their ability and stick in the fight when things go wrong

Every other home team won last week

Well written and shows that we are moulding into a solid team. The top 8 will continue to change while we have 17 teams. Numerous byes doesn't
help with continuity. I honestly think we may have new faces popping up next year and still stay under cap. As Meat from the Wanderers movie would say " leave da kid alone"

If he can instill that hard edge resilience into the team, which will take our defence up a notch that alone is going to reap rewards imo. There’s 3 or 4 games that if we had that we’d have won and be top 4.

Then it’s about improving the squad , there’s not been a whole lot out there so probably won’t have any big recruits till 2025 but you never know. Things do happen in the off season.

My key positions to improve is left centre. And I mean improve not Iro, not Tracey. Next is we need to cycle out some of our middles. Some are good but collectively we need better.

But it starts with getting some pride back in the defence. I wonder how much better we are without Moylan ?

They're all good on their day but our problem is consistency with the middles. Not sure how to improve that.

We’ve also rarely had all our best middles on the park together. They seemed to cop the majority of the injuries this year
Yep looking at final going ‘right dales been out a bit but that’s bit too bad, McInnes been playing well’
Next minute BHU joins him

The main reason our defense improved is because Fitz let it get into such diabolical shape in the first place the only way was up

A couple personnel changes and an injury to Teig and bam our defense is better.

If it was actually down to Fitz mythical defensive coaching prowess wtf was he doing with the squad the 12 months prior?

We would still be in the finals this week if he had taken action earlier as we likely would have finished top 4 and had more settled combinations by then.

Lets not forget that our first 3 months or so under Fitz in 2022 our defense was actually pretty solid IIRC so it isn't like you can say it was all hangover from the JMO days as it actually improved initially with Fitz at the helm (Dale was playing well though back then + we had tacklebot Tolman) but then he let it slide into terrible shape before finally taking some action to address it.

Trying to sort it out at training wasn't enough

Bellamy wouldn't have copped that **** for more than a week but now it seems like Cronulla are a team that can defend 'sometimes' 'when they feel like it'

Player attitude has stunk for best part of 5 years now (with some exceptions)

Having said all that the bloke is young for a FG coach and needs time to iron things out as opposed to building a team like say Flanno had to.

Many a fan wanted Flanno gone at various times leading right up until halftime in the final against the Raiders in 2016. Seems he could always coach just needed the right mix of players to execute his style.

Fitz already has his players so now he needs to be working on himself improving his coaching and his teams attitude. The younger players will develop naturally regardless. To Fitz credit we have some blokes playing great footy under him, career best even. Williams, Kennedy, Katoa. McInnes is firing.

Injuries make it hard, especially in a big finals game. No Dale, BHU or Kennedy hurt.

Did anyone really expect a premiership within 2 years? No.
Did we want to see clear and vast improvement in 2 years? Yes. Have we got that? kinda yea also kinda not really. We looked world beaters for a couple months at the start of 2022 but it's been inconsistent since then.

It's not a linear transparent curve though, it will be bumpy until (if he does take us to success) all of a sudden it all clicks and we have a great season backed up by a good finals campaign.

Happened with Ivan, happened with Flanno, happened with Green

I'm not Fitz biggest fan but I'm content with letting his tenure play out and see what comes of it, too early to consider an alternative
