Last ever City v Country
Gal's final rep game

Now I know the concept is dead and buried, and it stopped being a Origin trial years ago, but I still think the game has a place.

I'd like them resurrect the game, but with teams made up of retired players, both professional and bush footy.

Have them play for Beyond Blue or Black Dog. Gives regional centres a chance to see the game, and gives ex pkayers a chance to pull on the boots again, something that some players need while struggling with retirement and mental health issues.

Who else gets a jersey? Prior for Country? Townsend for City? I'd say that would do it for the Sharks. Everyone else is either a Queenslander, a Kiwi, playing for Australia, or a likely SOO player already (Graham, Fifita, Bird). Maybe Brailey gets a run on the City bench if they tell Peats not to bother coming.

I'd say Prior, Fifita, Graham, Bird would be among the first picked for their respective teams. Townsend an outside chance if there are withdrawals. If they're bringing Gal back they might as well bring a Lewis back LOL.

Fifita will apparently be picked for Tonga.

Also ... Raiders have also pulled the pin on City/Country (along with the Bulldogs). Personally I think Josh Jackson should be allowed to play (he's from Mudgee).

Wade Graham also refused to play last season (he wasn't injured).

Clubs should not be able to withdraw players. the notion that they can is ridiculous. Either the game goes ahead with the best available or it doesn't. Given it is the final year the coaches should suck it up.

The NRL are spineless ****s and shouldn't let it happen. It says a lot when the coaches actually just flatout refuse when they could just quietly do what they've always done and ruled their players out with a "niggle".

Didnt players used to have to apply to be made unavailable for origin, and it was actually part of their contract that you must be available if fit (and eligible) for origin.

Funny how thats the only game the nrl actually care about. Why....$.

I've never lived in the country, always been a city boy but there's something about watching NRL games in the country.

Maybe it's just a change of scenery from the usual city grounds.

Penrith having a Bathurst game makes sense. If we had to do it, going down the south coast would be good for a weekend away decent.
