Sorry, I haven't read all this too closely, if we were to sign AFB is that for 2024 or 2025?
He's currently 'committed' to the Warriors for 2024.
Will be leaving in 2025 but Warriors want a good player in return (they have some leverage here, but not heaps)

We don't want to give other clubs time to make room. Get it done now and worry about 2024 straight after!
The only issue with trying to lock him in for 2025 now is whether putting a player out unsettles our 2024.
BHU currently not signed for next year so wouldn't be too hard to just let him know with AFB coming we can't pick him back up and hope he doesn't get too rattled by it.
If we were trying to trade a contracted player they could get unsettled and cause some issue.

The biggest hurdle there I feel is if they want a player or two in return. Feel it would cause a fair bit of unrest in the playing group possibly?
Just thinking out loud here.
I’m all for signing AFB though. Do what it takes when a player of his calibre is on the market.

Did you see the Bulldogs play last season?

They pretty much lost every week and some of their squad simply weren’t first grade standard.

What choice do they have but to spend the money that NRL gives them?

The only player I’d want from their signings is Crichton, but not for what they would’ve paid.
Yeah, but they signed a lot of players last year too, didn’t they?

100%

Knowing the warriors too, there's every chance they revert to a bottom 8 side next year. Who knows if SJ can string together another fully fit year. In that case, they'll be more than happy to ship him early to save some cash moving forward. We could end up with him for the run home on peanuts this year.

Also released quite a few over last couple years, probably all on overs since club has been trash (they still are, but they are pretending they aren't)
They still won’t make the 8 next year imo.

We've surely cemented ourselves as the best option for him now. Only Syd based team that can afford him that isn't an underperforming basket-case.

Thats assuming we’re interested. There’s been no indication whatsoever that we’ve joined the race. There’s always the chance Fitz might not fancy him.

I don’t follow the dogs too closely, but the ins and outs seem similar to me.
Crichton and Curran will add a bit, they also didn't get Kikau much last year, so he will feel like a new player for them.

Seem to be going the moneyball approach with guys like Tracey, Curran, Mann, Hutchinson, Taafe, Salmon... all decent players that can fill a role. None were in their previous teams best 13 though, so can't see them improving enough to make the 8.

Also think Ciraldo has been underwhelming with his coaching, I can't think of a single player that improved under his coaching last year. Burton, Mahoney, Fox, Pangai, Thompson... all went backwards.

All heart – good luck Connor.

Not a bad backline if they can get their **** together:

1. Tracey
2. Kiraz
3. Crichton
4. Xerri/Burton
5. Addo-Carr
6. Burton/Salmon
7. Sexton/Hutchinson

Not gunna lie. This one stings a bit. Love what Tracey brought to the club. I credit him with quite a bit of Kennedy's rise (could be completely wrong but hey...).

I disagree that we have coverage at fullback. We might see it emerge, but as of today, we don't. We have unproven talent.

Having said that, if he was on $500k he needed to go. We shouldn't be carrying a backup on that money.

I can only hope the younger guys can bring that same work ethic and energy.

What’s the bet CT still ends up as the bench utility at the dogs ….
Don't think he'd quite go that low, remember to make back 5 he only needs to beat out guys like Xerri and Wilson, but it wouldn't shock me if we ended up seeing something like

Crichton
JAC
Kiraz
Xerri/Tracey
Tracey/Wilson

or

Taaffe
JAC
Kiraz
Crichton
Tracey

Remember 12 months ago Tracey was our 4th choice fullback and we remember what happened to Miller when actually expected to start week in week out as #1 choice...
