This is a thread about chad townsend (who i was referring to) AK is the quite the opposite player and i agree with everything you have said. He has great talent but unfortunately as i have said on another thread, he has problems off the field, of which not all are his fault.

As much as I'd love to see Chad make it in the NRL squad, I honestly believe he has another 6-12 months in his development to hone his craft. He'll be a serious match winner one day but only if we develop him properly. we need to be strategic as to when we blood new players

well said, you say Chad is a year or so a way from playing first grade, how much longer do you think Kelly is a way from first grade at 5/8? Could be a very exiting time for the club in a couple of years. do you know if their is any plans by the club to tire these 2 up long term?

What does that mean for Townsend if we sign Murray and Graham?

what it means for chad, is he needs to lift his game, as from all reports he is a gun, and has his team top 2.

This guy is exactly what the Sharks need. We must put everything into keeping him and developing him. Talking to his Mum a few weeks ago, she was telling me how ever since he was four years old, his only dream has been to play for the Sharks.

That sort of passion in a local junior is what we have been missing recently, especially since Reece got injured. We must not put high priced, over-rated imports above the likes of Chad Townsend, guys who have a real desire to play for the Sharks.

you can have all the desire you like but if you dont have the talent or consistency to compete then you're not going to make grade.

i think chadd should be kept, but if its between chad and murray, after doing a quick search of murray and comparing stats, murray is miles ahead of him

Yeah I have, and TBH I think he is pretty good. But I would prefer Murray or Williams for sure.

I've only seen him once or twice and am admittedly not the best in terms of evaluating good youthful players but from what I saw he seems promising but young so no where near first grade. Just needs time.

I really do think that Flano has had a blinder, I think that Williams or Murray are the 2 you want, so I am stoked if we get him.

Just A Thought!

I'll throw some names at ya, and pose a serious question.

Brad Fitler, Laurie Daley, Allan Langer, Steve Rogers, Andrew Ettingshausen just to name a few, players that are considered by many to be, well, legends of their football clubs, and also listed within the top 100 players of all time.

These players were basically given their chances when they were very young, and they stood up to become the legends they are today, so, here is my question. "Why are some NRL coaches so intent on holding back some of the talented players at their disposal, and not letting some of these kids stand up and show what they have got?

We have had nothing but trouble with whoever wears our number 7 jersey this year, yet we have this kid Chad Townsend in the lower grades who has represented the Aussie schoolboys and NSW under 20s the last 2 years, and he is being held in the juniors. Christ, let's give the kid a run in firsts and see what he has got. Couldn't hurt could it? He might be the next Andrew Johns. I'm all for the old saying, old enough if good enough. What do you guys think? (ps. I have not seen this kid play because i live in the Central West of NSW, so if i am over rating this kid, i am truly sorry, but surely we must have another Nathan Gardner type junior coming through that is worthy of a run.)

I understand where you're coming from. I've seen a bit of Townsend and I wouldn't be chucking him into the NRL mix just yet either. I can't compare to the other guys you named because I wasn't fortunate enough to see them playing at the same age.

I'd at least give Kelly a dig in the halves though. We got 3 weeks left and he obviously thinks he's up to it, so I'd be inclined to put the ball back in his court and say "prove it".

Don't know that one....

Nobody who watched him regularly thinks he is capable of handling first grade. Some of them think he will be a gun in the future though. If he is not ready he is not ready, no matter how much we suck.
