Capewell for me should never have been released. Blind Freddy could see there was a bloody good player there.

Morris clearly had other opinions.

I wouldn't be rushing into a deal with him, definitely don't need to get into a tug of war with any desperate clubs

In saying that there is a good footy player there but he still needs to develop and learn, he's kind of just plateaued the past year or so, hopefully it's a wait and see for fitz. Plenty of cover if we were to lose him

I agree I definitely thought Capewell could be a good player, but he was very erratic early on.
He ran like a baby giraffe and while he could do some really good stuff he'd make some bad mistakes too.
Nikora came in looking the goods in 2019 and Capewell wanted a pay raise and a start so he rightly left and we rightly didn't try and outbid for our bench edge player.
I didn't want him to go but didn't begrudge it. History will show it as a mistake but at the time I think it was probably the reasonable call.

Sorensen I expect we were holding off to give him a base deal if he didn't get any other offers and Penrith must have swooped in and offered him an extra maybe 20k or so. I wouldn't think we wouldn't have offered him base, I also doubt he'd leave for same money. Our cap was still pretty tight last year so probably didn't have any wiggle room on those base rates at the time.

I think Penrith had Capewell pumping weights in the preseason he joined them. He looked pretty strong.

Something a few of our players need to, Brailey, Nikora, Teig

your stint in the ESL seems to have done you good. have come back calm and level headed . stick around for a bit this time, I am sure SF can offer you a 12 months base contract with room for an extension pending form, you already familiar with our systems and structures here. Tigers forum moderator will be sacked soon so don't be tempted going there and they havn't had a finals series thread since the ADSL days

have you seen the rig on Brailey mate ? I dont feel Nikora and Tieg struggle for strength either

Consistently bad mate. I think he has been awful since day dot. Hasn’t really been any better or worse. Is a constant threat to create a try from 30 out - for either team.

If you want to talk about who has been “consistently good” over the last 2-3 seasons, you won’t like most of my picks. I agree on Katoa though. He is a weapon coming out of his own end.

you might be surprised, I am still interested
so start naming names

To get some perspective on Nikora's value .
We let Sorensen and Capewell go with them both perhaps being on less money .
Are we getting better value from Nikora , I personally don't think so .
Also if it ever came down to a choice between him and Wilton
Wilton wins hands down .
Just my 2 cents

Capewell was just starting to break into rep (Origin) and his value perceived or otherwise was probs rising with that, he wasn't the player he was then that he would become a few years later though but was showing promise. can't remember if he was considered surplus or we made him a genuine offer

Sorro should have been a no brainer, liked the club and wanted to stay and only needed a bargain basement contract and he was getting better and more consistent as a player. Our cap was so ****ed we needed to squeze out a player that was on very little coin, kinda like Josh Morris the following season.

If Duges or SJ or Woods or someone ****ed off we prob could have kept him on. He's a handy, strong and reliable player for Penrith these days.

I am happy for him but will never forgive the atrocity carried out by our club in letting him go elsewhere

On the comments about Nikora not doing enough work or being involved enough in attack...

I'm re-watching the Parra game. 20 minutes gone and Parra have have kicked it 8 times. 7 go in to the left corner and one is a 5m grubber by a winger when he ran out of space. The Sharks also drop the ball before it gets to Nikora the first two times they shift right.

Nikora takes the first hit up on the one set where they come out of that corner and gets a good offload, and then gets another run later in the set and his quick play the ball sets up a half break.

Nikora wasn't shirking the hard work. The play was almost always on the other side. Could be that teams see Ronaldo as vulnerable, or want to avoid Ramien's dummy half running, or some other reason.

Haven't paid much attention to Capewell's defence lately, but he doesn't seemed to get involved too much in attack lately, apart from running decoys on the left edge. He did throw a decent pass to set up a Broncs try in the first week. Overall, he does some good things, but could involve himself more.

I think he's been carrying a couple of niggles. It's kind of nice to have an 80 minute right side edge player, don't have to waste an interchange and can use the spare interchange in the middle instead.

Still has the occasional poor miss in him, but in general is solid defensively. It helped last season that his team was almost always offside.

Fitz said in this interview that they are negotiating to re-sign Nikora. He said that he is really happy with his work ethic and his work off the ball.

Just watching game highlights - I'm openly critical of Nikora but in Kotoa try Opacic holds up on Nikora until it is evident he won't get it, which drags Blake in onto Ramien who tips it on to Katoa to go untouched.
No stat for Nikora but good contribution to this try

Opacic and Blake also tackle Ramien well after he has passed ball but he's not a half so doesn't matter (plus you know, we scored)

More chance of Nikora going to the Eels cos Madge won’t be at Tigers much longer
